The US-designed MTD SBC33 is an impressively powerful petrol brushcutter that’s been equipped to make light work of challenging scrub-clearance and grass-trimming applications.
Delivering a hefty 1.4hp is a large-displacement 33cc two-stroke air-cooled engine with a full crank for an extended service-life; improved stress-tolerance; and a marked cut in fatigue- and wear-inducing vibration.
MTD’s Easy-Start system makes achieving ignition quick and simple; while a large 0.9-litre-capacity tank means you’ll get the job done with minimal time lost for refuelling.
A two-in-one strimmer/brushcutter, the MTD SBC33 comes with a nylon-line head for the post-mowing tidy; and a rugged three-tooth metal blade for jobs where more aggressive cutting is required.
It combines a pro-style ‘bike’ (or ‘cowhorn’) handlebar with a double shoulder-harness so as to maximise comfort and control; and it boasts a solid drive-shaft that optimises torque-transfer to your chose cutter-head.
The line-head on this model incorporates a bump feed mechanism - simply tap the head on the ground to spool-out fresh cord.

Excellent but one Potentially Awful Flaw!!Review by Peter Scatchard / (Posted on 10/05/2017)Well designed and built machine (German!!). Assembly is easy with decent tools provided.
Starts and runs well. Good balance, cow-horns offer excellent control and rapid advancement over a wide sweep. Tap line-feed works well, but the fatal flaw is that the line-cup is made of some incredibly brittle plastic!! On my very first use, by the time I had used up the line as supplied already wound onto the spool and opened the cup to replace the line, the two sprung clips had broken off and disappeared, and the cup itself had several small pieces missing and several cracks.
Having photographed the damaged item back to MowDirect, I have just received the replacement, but I really fear that it will be more of the same. In the meantime, I substituted the line head and bottom half of the shaft with that from my previous McCulloch - whilst the McC has failed me in some ways, at least this element has proved robust enough never to have required replacement, albeit that the bump / tap line-feed doesn't work that well. I'll further review the machine once the replacement line-spool has been fitted and we've used it again. It will be a real shame if I have to return the entire kit and caboodle if this fails again, as the rest of the machine is excellent.
