Nearly all petrol chainsaws employ two-stroke power, but in the design and production of the FTRT494T, MowDirect-exclusive brand Feider have – and understandably so – opted instead for four-stroke!

Four-stroke motors have three key advantages over their two-stroke counterparts:

Firstly, their torque ‘sweet spot’ is lower down the rev band, so maximum performance is achieved with less stress on key parts; secondly, the engine tone is far more pleasant, which makes for a less stressful working-environment; and thirdly, there’s no need to mess around preparing a fuel-oil mixture – just fill-up and go!

The Feider FTRT494T 4-Stroke Petrol Chainsaw boasts a sizeable 49cc cylinder displacement, from which it develops a muscular 2.2hp – that’s the sort of power output you’ll need if you’re going to be tackling heavier-duty woodcutting tasks.

Easy-Start means a gentle pull on the rope will see the engine spark into life; a substantial 0.3-litre chain-oil tank capacity means you’ll enjoy long periods of interruption-free operation.

The chain on the Feider FTRT494T 4-Stroke Petrol Chainsaw has been specially designed to ensure ‘kick-back’ is highly unlikely. Should kick-back occur, chain rotation is stopped immediately by a fast-acting brake.

It employs pro-duty, Oregon-brand cutting-gear, so a pleasingly clean cut and stay-sharp durability are assured; and it benefits from an anti-vibration system, which works to reduce user fatigue by limiting shock transfer from engine to hands.

Capable of handling medium-large cuts, this model comes with a 41cm guide bar.
