Hints & Tips
Even though the grass is not growing so quickly, you still need to trim it to keep the lawn looking neat and tidy.
Just raise the cutting height a little for now, you can always lower it again once the growth becomes more vigorous after the next belt of rain – well, we do live in Britain.
For those of you who have a smaller lawn a large, self-propelled mower with a wide cut is not important, but you still need a reliable machine, light and easy to use, and this one ticks all the boxes.
Currently on special offer, the Mountfield HP454 Petrol Rotary Hand-Propelled Lawnmower has a 140cc Mountfield engine, for an an easy start, and is ideal for lawns around 800m2.
With a cutting width of 45cm it is easy to manoeuvre around lawn edges and trees and garden benches and weighs only 22kg.
There are five cutting-heights from a low 20mm to 70mm for the areas where you want the grass left longer.
A cleverly-designed cutting deck creates strong air currents to blast the clippings into a 55 litre box – especially useful when the grass is wet as it can tend to ball up and leave clumps on the lawn.
Included is a mulch plug, if you prefer to treat the clippings this way. This is an ideal way of dealing the cut grass when it’s dry as the clippings are held longer in the deck and cut down to tiny pieces before dropping back to the lawn.
There they break down and become a useful fertiliser.
Have a look at these reviews to see what previous customers think of this mower. One customer had this to say… “if you want a quality mower from a quality company at a great price – this is one to seriously consider.” Well you can’t say fairer than that. It costs £199, £100 less than the recommended price, is delivered free the next working day and has a two-year warranty.
