Hints & Tips
The Met Office has forecast a wet and windy summer and more important a mild one.
And that means that the grass will keep growing much longer. Lawns grow most of the winter months but obviously less vigorously than in the Spring, but you can still trim them even in the darkest days of winter.
Cutting heights should be left higher so the can resist the freezing weather and if you do this they will grow quickly in the Spring. And if you do cut the lawn through the winter just ‘knock the whiskers off.’
And when we do have a sharp frost or a covering of snow try to stay off it.
So given the fact that lawns will continue to grow, albeit slowly, you may well need another mower now so here are three of our top sellers from Mountfield.
The Mountfield HP180 Petrol Rotary Hand Propelled Lawnmower, still on special offer, has a tough steel deck and a 125 cc Briggs & Stratton engine designed to be easy to fire up.
This has a cutting width of 43 cm and is recommended for lawns up to around 1500 sq metres.
The cutting deck is shaped to increase the airflow and help towards efficient collection of the clippings – the grass box holds 55 litres. It has five cutting g heights from 20 mm to 70 mm.
It costs £199, £10 less than the maker’s recommended retail price and has a two year warranty. We deliver it free the next working day.
The SP180 Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower has a Briggs & Stratton 125 cc engine and cutting heights from 20 mm to 70 mm. And being self-propelled it makes life much easier when working on a sloping lawn.
The cutting deck is 45 cm wide – 18 in – and the steel cutting deck makes it a very solid mower designed for a longer life.
It costs £249, again £100 off the recommended retail price and has a two year warranty. We deliver it free the next working day.
And this one has proved to be one of our best sellers all summer and is still at the same great price.
The Mountfield SP533 Self-propelled Petrol Lawn Mower has a wider cutting width – 51 cm – making it suitable for larger lawns up to 2500 sq metres and it is fitted with Mountfield’s own 160 cc engine.
The grass box holds 60 litres so fewer trips to the compost heap to empty the cuttings, and the cutting deck is shaped to make it a good collector of grass even when it’s wet.
Cutting heights are from 25 mm up to 90 mm. This one has a powder coated pain finish to give it a longer life.
It costs £319 compared with the recommended retail price of £449 and has a three year warranty.
We deliver it for free the next working day.
