Mower of the week: Battery-powered machine setting new standards

Electrically-powered mowers have come a long way recently thanks to the developments in lithium-ion battery technology, with longer running and less time spent charging.
And the average sized garden you really can’t go wrong with the Greenworks 40V Lithium-Ion 3-in-1 Cordless Lawn Mower (25157 – 2012 Model). This has a 41 cm cutting width and can cut a lawn the size of a tennis court without charging.

It can run for 40 minutes continuously and when you stop the battery will not lose any of the remaining charge. And as an added advantage the battery has an indicator to show how much charge is left.
The clippings can either be collected in the 50 litre grass box, mulched and returned to the lawn or discharged at the back by using the grass deflector plate.
The great thing about these mowers is the weight – just 15 kg – less than half the of weight of most steel-decked petrol powered ones.
Handlebars fold down to take less room in the shed.
The maker’s recommended retail price is £499 but we have it for sale for only £249. And what’s more it has a four year warranty from Greenworks and is delivered free the next working day.
Additionally you can buy a 40V chainsaw and 40V cordless hedge trimmer at great prices.
