Get the lawn mower back out in March

Get the lawn mower back out in March
As we go into March, it should be pretty safe to say that winter is firmly behind us – meaning spring will be making its presence felt.

This is great news for green-fingered enthusiasts and gardening professionals alike, as it means that they will find there is a lot more active work for them to be getting on with outdoors.

Indeed, if a few dry days present themselves, it could be the perfect time to get out the lawn mower and cut back the grass that might have grown a little unruly throughout the wet winter climate.

Here at MowDIRECT, we pride ourselves on being the UK's leading online supplier of mowers since our establishment in 1999 (the clue is in the name!).

As such, we have plenty of exclusive deals, offering prices that simply cannot be beaten. For instance, we stock the Mountfield SP536 Self-propelled Petrol Lawn Mower for £299 – a considerable reduction on the recommended retail price (RRP) of £449.

This is great value for money – and it represents the perfect chance to pick up a reliable and quality large-sized lawn mower.

Anyone after a larger, ride-on model could have a look at the Mountfield 1430M Lawn Tractor. Although it has an RRP of £1699, you can get it from us for £1,499.

It would also be wise to give your mower a quick once-over for maintenance purposes – especially if you are digging it out for the first time in a while.

Professional garden and landscape designer Dan Pearson also offered some of his personal tips for gardening priorities that should be taken into account throughout the month of March.

One of the most important of these was mulching – which is key for protecting out-of-season plants in tough conditions.

"Mulch only on to clean ground, or you risk simply improving the quality of perennial weeds," Mr Pearson remarked, adding: "Roses, soft fruit and perennials will benefit from a mulch of up to five cm.

"It helps to hold in summer moisture and improves soil quality," the expert continued. "Spread evenly over soil and up to the necks of the plants for a protective eiderdown to keep weed seeds in darkness and inactive."

Needless to say, we have just the right garden tools for the job here at MowDIRECT. We have a wide range of chippers and shredders – many of which are able to recycle garden waste and turn it into this valuable substance.

Hedges will also need to be cut back in March – and judicious pruning can be one of the best ways to keep them in a state of good health.

"Cutting back all in one go is only successful if your hedge is in its prime and can take it," Mr Pearson advised. "I prefer a more gradual approach – and March is the perfect month to prune hard – into old wood, to one side only."

For those who wish to keep wall climbers trim, why not have a look at investing in some tree pruners? This allows you to complete the task from the relative comfort and security of the ground.
