Top Ten Tunes To Tantalise & Treasure & Tools With Which To Tinker & Tend Your Garden

I’ve had a bank holiday weekend full of music. I’m not talking about the much vaunted THE VOICE finals, much as they were hard to avoid, or the Lilting Easter offering from Radio 3 that drifted over my garden as I sat with a chilled glass of something effervescent on Sunday, or even the other various Bank Holiday music shows that littered the airwaves. No. I have been thinking of music ‘cos I dug out some old CDs to play when my friends came round on BH Monday for festive frolics, and it made me think how much we all love music at MowDirect. The hum of a hedge cutter, the chatter of a chainsaw and the gentle murmur of a mellow water feature are music to our ears (mainly Drew’s)  but, to be honest, they don’t sound that good on your MP3 player, so instead, here is a little chart countdown of other tracks that are dear to our hearts and a rundown of associated garden equipment you might need for the coming season.

1. David Cassidy – ‘Breaking Up is Hard To Do’. It certainly is if your soil is heavy and compacted, so try using a mechanical tiller from our Extensive Range

2. Elvis Costello – ‘Pump It Up’. I bet Mr Costello never had to deal with a flooded basement or a pond that needs cleaning. Have a look at our water pumps.

3. Bananarama – ‘Cruel Summer’. According to 80s pop sirens Siobhan, Keren and Sara, the summer heat is getting ‘totally over the top’ so when the time comes, if your plants are getting dry as the sun goes ballistic, effort saving spray irrigation is the answer. Have a look at our selection of sprayers.

4. Justin Hayward/Gary Barlow – ‘Forever Autumn’. It’s all very well kicking a path through a crunchy covering of brown and gold leaves as Moody Blues singer Justin, and more recently Gary Barlow, suggests in this ‘War of The Worlds’ classic, but who is going to clean them up? Take a look at our great selection of leaf sweepers.

5. Monty Python. ‘The Lumberjack Song’. We love this one because it’s silly. But if you want to cut down trees efficiently and earn those buttered scones apparently so vital to a Canadian Arborist’s diet, have a quick gander at these top quality chainsaws, and you really will be OK. There’s work to do.

6. Tom Jones – ‘The Green, Green Grass Of Home’. Tom wasn’t the only man languishing in jail thinking about his lawn. This 1966 chart topper for Tom was a hit for Jerry lee Lewis first and has been covered by Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and of course Elvis himself.  But if you want your very own, green, green grass, what about a mulching lawn mower, like one of these.

Oi, Tina.Have you seen the state of these?

“Oi, Tina.Have you seen the state of these?”

7. Tina Turner – ‘Steamy Windows’. Let’s not even begin to guess why Tina’s conservatory panels have got all covered in condensation. Suffice to say they are going to need a good going over when she’s finished. Not known for getting down and dirty unless it’s growling R&B at 90 dB(A) , even Tina might have a go at her grubby dormers with these great window cleaning solutions from WOLF-Garten.

8. David Bowie & Freddie Mercury ‘Under Pressure’. This massive number 1 hit, attributed to both Bowie, Freddie and the Queen boys in 1981 was finalised during a jam session in Bowie’s studio in Montreux, Switzerland. However, ‘under pressure’ to us conjures up happy days cleaning the family car with a a jet spray and an oscillating nozzle. Have a look at these chart and dirt busting pressure washers from STIHL.

9. The Kinks – ‘Lazing On A Sunny Afternoon’. Well. Everyone has got to have a rest sometime and this classic track sums up my BH weekend perfectly…except for the big fat mama trying to break me of course, I won’t stand for any of that in my garden.

10. And finally… A traditional tune with lyrics by Robert M. Jordan  – English Country Garden. How could we have a list of garden related songs without this one? Collected by musicologist, and friend to Vaughan Williams, Cecil Sharpe, the Morris dancers’ favourite dates back centuries. The well-known words were added in 1958, but apparently it’s a standing joke in the folk music community that no two versions have the same words and parodies abound.  So, to add to the profusion, here’s our version…

“How many kinds of tools can you collect for an English country garden?
There’s quite a choice to be found at MowDirect, and those we miss you’ll surely pardon
Trimmers for your privet hedge, strimmers that will do the edge, Lawn Mowers, Snow Blowers, everything select
So for growing and mowing, click on MowDirect, for your English country garden”.

Phew… and that’s just the first verse. Anyway, that’s it for our top ten. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and now you have see our choices why not come up with some of your own. Anything garden or garden machinery related will do. You can share them with us here. See ya crop pickers! Holly.
