Ten top machines to shift the snow and keep you working while others flounder

The first snows of winter and bitter winds have blown away the memories of a baking summer and reminded us that now’s the time to take precautions if we don’t want to be snowed in this winter.

So here are ten top machines from the most basic to real blizzards busters to keep you moving this winter when others have to pack up.

The first is the most basic and simple little push along snow plough which can keep paths and drives snow free

and more safe.

The Einhell MSF 570 Manual Snow Plough works on the principle of the Archimedes Screw, forcing the snow to one side as the walk along.

The clearing width is 57 cm, an ideal width for a path and yet quite capable of clearing a small drive – and a lot easier than using a shovel.

It has a double handlebar and can hang up in the shed taking little room when not in use.

The working parts are made from hard-wearing plastic making the machine very light.

It has a one year manufacturer’s warranty and is delivered free the next working day.

And it costs just £25.

Another great little machine for the householder, this time electrically powered, is the Stiga Snow Electric 31 Snow Blower.

Designed in Sweden, it is simplicity itself to use, just plug it in and away you go.

This machine works much like an electric shovel, picking up the snow and throwing it up to five metres away.

It has a 1100 Watt electric motor and a clearing width of 31 cm, and it has an intake height of 23 cm.

There are no wheels, the machine simply slides along the surface to clear right back to the ground.

The handles are adjustable and the machine can be hung in the porch when not in use.

It costs £89, £10 less than Stiga’s recommended retail price, with a one year maker’s warranty. Delivery is free the next working day.

Now one on special offer while stocks last

and another aimed at the householder.

The Alpina Single-Stage Electric Snow Blower has a rubber-bladed auger which churns up the snow as it moves along. The snow is then thrown clear through a chute which is rotated through 180 degrees by using a lever on the handlebar.

Power is provided by a 1800 Watt electric motor and the machine comes with 10 metres of power cable.

The revolving auger powers the machine along, and it is light, easy to use and easy to store away with fold-down handlebars.

This great little machine is currently on special offer at £169, £30 off the maker’s recommended retail price.

There is a one year warranty from the maker’s and free next day delivery from us.

Here’s a great package we’ve put together to help householders keep paths and drives ice free and offering great value for money.

The Winter Snow and Ice Treatment Package consists of  an MD 80P Walk-Behind Spreader, Magic Ice Melt and as a free gift, a giant Garant Snow Shovel.

The spreader has a hopper which can hold 80 lb and the flow rate can be adjusted. The covering width is up to three metres.

The Magic Ice Melt is non toxic and will not help plants or pets and is far more effective than traditional rock salt and it will not scratch cars or  damage clothing.

The ten bags with the package will cover and area of up to 2000 sq metres.

Additional bags of Ice Melt can be bought at special prices as can extra snow shovels.

The package costs £299, a substantial saving on the total price of £364.95. Delivery is in two to three days.

Now moving on to more serious machines for larger domestic properties and small commercial use.

The Oleo-Mac Artik 56 Dual-Stage Snow Blower with a manual start will give a fast and low-cost way of clearing paths, drives and forecourts snow free.

This is a two stage machine with metal augurs dragging snow and ice into the main hood where an impellor takes over, throwing the snow away through a chute – up to 12 metres away.

The chute can be rotated through 190 degrees and the pitch can be adjusted up to 70 degrees.

The 182 cc engine is specially designed to cope with freezing conditions and is easy to start. An electric start version is also available.

It has five forward and two reverse gears and deep-tread tyres to give good grip in bad conditions.

It moves along on slider at the front which are adjustable to take account of the height of the snow and the base surface.

It costs £475, a great reduction on the maker’s recommended price of £699.

It is delivered free the next working day and has a two year manufacturer’s warranty.

Now here’s an absolute bargain, a snow blower with £500 off.

The Mountfield Manor 95H Two-Wheeled Snow Plough has a GCV160 engine, light and highly effective giving massive torque across all revs, quiet running and few vibrations.

This has forward and reverse gears and is really easy to use letting you clear right up to the sides of buildings.

The snow blade is 85 cm wide and a simple adjustment lets you clear snow to the right or left.

The steel chassis is powder coat for a longer life and there are chunky tyres for good grip.

A sweeping brush is a handy addition to keep your buildings snow clear if the falls are lighter. Other tools can also be fitted.

It costs £898, £89 less than the maker’s recommended retail price. The sweeper brush costs £459.

Delivery is free within two to three working days and there is a one year warranty.

The powerful impellor can blast the snow up to 12 metres away through and adjustable rotating chute.

Snow skids at the front can raise or lower the intake hood depending on the surface you are clearing and chunky tyres give great grip.

It is £100 off the maker’s recommended retail price at £1089 and has a one year maker’s warranty.

Now one on very special offer, £800 off the manufacturer’s recommended retail price.

The MD SnowCAT 2-Stage Snow Blower with Caterpillar Tracks can tackle the toughest conditions and is remarkably easy to control.

This the machine you want if you have large forecourts, car parks or long drives and roads to keep clear.

It has a 270 cc engine and the two caterpillar tracks give terrific grip on slopes and slippery surfaces.

The two-stage clearance mechanism collects the snow and ice into the front hood and the second stage – the impellor – blasts the snow away through an easily adjusted chute.

The working width is 70 cm – 28 in – and it can handle snow falls up to 54 cm – 21  in – deep.

A centre headlamp keeps you working when it gets dark or early in the morning.
