Bez buzzing for bees

Bez buzzing for bees
Former Happy Mondays star Bez has revealed an unexpected obsession: beekeeping.

The maraca shaking madman, who was famous for his strange dancing techniques, is now encouraging a green initiative in Manchester.

Under the new programme, Bez and a number of other enthusiasts have set up two hives on top of the Printworks leisure facility in an effort to try and encourage plant life in the northern city to flourish.

Last year's long winter and a snowy spring earlier this year completely devastated the UK's bee population – which has been suffering from a mysterious illness commonly known as colony collapse syndrome in the past decade.

So it's absolutely vital that all of us do everything we can to help bees to get back on their feet by getting into our gardens and putting lots and lots of wildflowers down!

But here at MowDIRECT we wouldn't have pegged Bez for the beekeeping type! Apparently we were dead wrong, as the Mancunian now lives part-time in a south Wales commune where he is one of the principal hive tenders!

"My grandad, when he came home from the war, the only thing he came home with was four massive tins of honey and ever since honey has been part of our family life – on our cereal and in our tea.

"I'm getting on a bit, don't know what I'm going to do, no pension pot and the prospect of growing old in the city."

But how did Bez afford the new colony – normally costing £800 – if he intends to live a more frugal lifestyle? Well, apparently he bought it off "some guy" for £50.

We like your style Bez, you're right that living in a city doesn't have to stop you from getting your fingers nice and green!

Do you have a balcony or a rooftop garden like Bez? Well you'll know how much of a pain it is to clean off all of the leaves in autumn time.

So instead of picking them up manually, why not use a Efco Hand Held Leaf Blower, which is perfect for small spaces because of its compact nature. What's more, it won't disturb the neighbours too much because of its low-noise levels!
