Under-35s spend more money on gardening than any other group.
This is according to Stewart Garden, which asked green-fingered Britons in the 25-34, 35-54 and 55+ age groups about their expenditure on products ranging from watering cans, to seeds and bulbs.
Gardeners in the 25-34 category spent £300 per head, compared to £240 for the 35-54-year-olds, while those aged 55+ only expended £200 per head.
Stewart Garden said that 30 per cent of the money paid by younger plant enthusiasts is spent on seeds, propagation, pots and hanging baskets. This, the firm suggests, shows just how popular the "grow your own food" trend is among 25-34-year-olds.
The study found that April to June is the busiest gardening period of the year, with thousands across the UK making the most out of the opportune conditions in the spring and summer period.
It was also discovered that a whopping 46 per cent of all consumers want more advice when they head to a gardening centre – showing retailers need to improve their service.
