Despite the fact the UK is still being ravaged by blizzards and below-freezing conditions, spring is still technically upon us.
Indeed, gardeners at Hyde Park have marked the occasion by planting over 40,000 native bluebells, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Primary school children from Thomas's School in Kensington were invited to pick up some garden tools and help with the task.
It is hoped that the initiative – which was organised by the Royal Parks Foundation charity, which supports royal parks in London – will become an annual event.
Assistant manager of Hyde Park Rob Dowling said it was great to see so many kids getting involved with planting new flowers in the green area.
"It's a rewarding way for these children to learn about the ecology of the park," the expert commented.
"The bluebells planted today will enhance the landscape for years to come," he continued, adding that it is hoped the activity will help to preserve the native bluebell.
