Garden writer and photographer Graham Rice noted that grafted plants are becoming highly popular among fruit and vegetable growers.
In an article for the Daily Telegraph, he suggested that it is very important anyone interested in these varieties does their research and learns about the differences between grafted and non-grafted plants.
He also underlined the importance of avoiding planting them too deep in the soil.
"We are often recommended to plant tomatoes, in particular, deeply, right up to their first leaves," the expert commented, adding: "Never do this with grafted plants.
"Roots will grow out into the soil from above the graft and then pick up all the diseases to which the rootstock is resistant – making using grafted plants a complete waste of time."
