While it can be tempting to put your feet up indoors in the cooler winter conditions – particularly at Christmas – there are still plenty of tasks to be getting on with in the garden.
Some plants are best left to their own devices, as they can cope perfectly well on their own, but it is essential that action is taken to protect other parts of the garden from the possibility of much harsher conditions.
Indeed, we recently suggested that snow can actually be very beneficial for gardeners in some respects.
For instance, many perennial plants have already retreated underground for the winter – so an additional layer of snowfall can only provide them with an extra little bit of protection.
However, for any areas where excess snow needs to be cleared, it could be worth thinking about investing in a brand new snow shovel.
Here at MowDIRECT, we have a wide range of these products to cater for all tastes and budgets. The Garant Large Canadian Snow Shovel is available for the bargain price of £19.95 – down from the RRP of £39.95.
Alternatively, the Wolf-Garten 45cm Aluminium Snow-Shovel has a lightweight aluminium construction and comfortable D-shaped handle that makes it perfect for the clearance of deep, compacted snow.
We sell this product for £44.95 – click here for more product information.
Author of the Veg Plotting blog Michelle Chapman noted that the smaller, less accessible parts of a garden also need to be taken care of.
In an article for the Guardian, she said that there are plenty of lightweight and practical garden tools that are ideally suited to this purpose.
"Many small gardens suffer from overworked soil, and while adding compost and leaf mould will eventually restore them to health, these methods take time, hard work and access to a wheelbarrow," the expert remarked.
