Wind and rain ‘should not put gardeners off’

The bright and sunny days of the summer season appear to be firmly behind us – but that does not mean that gardeners will be able to kick back and let their tasks pile up, as there is still plenty of work to be getting on with.

Gillian Montegrande, director and founder of online produce community Made by Hands of Britain, said that a bit of wind and rain should not be an issue for anyone who is really serious about gardening.

She explained that this is because there is always something to be done, regardless of climate conditions and what time of year it is.

Indeed, getting to work outdoors can even be very good for a person, as the Royal Horticultural Society recently argued that gardening can help to dispel the winter blues.

Planting violas and pansies was cited as being a great example of this – mainly because of the bright colours that they bring to a green space.

Furthermore, the fact that they are able to be planted wherever they are most needed means that they offer a great deal of flexibility to green-fingered enthusiasts.

Ms Montegrande noted that many gardens could be looking rather untidy at the present time – mainly because of the inclement weather, as well as the fact that lots of plants are starting to shut down for the winter already.

"There is still just enough time to clip hedges and topiary into their crisp shapes in order that they too will look their best over the winter months, especially when covered in sparkling frost, bringing a certain calibre and elegance to an otherwise damp and uninteresting place – you won't have much colour but you will have lots of structure," the expert commented.

Here at MowDIRECT, we currently have an MD 4-in-1 Multi Tool on offer for just £179.95 – down from £299.95 – and this could be perfectly suited to this task.
