Strimmers and trimmers have become a vital part of the gardener’s armoury to keep lawn and path edges in trim and American company Greenworks has just introduced two new models which rely on the latest technology.
These battery trimmers have virtually the same power as petrol powered ones but are much quieter and lighter to use.
They rely on the latest lithium-ion batteries which are easily and quickly recharged. These batteries also fit a wide range of other Greenworks garden machinery.

Greenworks 40 Volt trimmer
The Greenworks 40 Volt Cordless Trimmer/Edger can run continuously for 70 minutes, nearly half as long again as older battery models.
Line feed is automatic and the rotating strimming head will pivot to cut those difficult parts and rotate by 90 degrees a, a really useful feature which makes it possible to trim lawn edges.
Strimming speed can be varied depending on what you want to trim and the shaft can be collapsed for easier transport.
And what is more this machine delivers the power of most petrol models and yet weighs half as much. In fact the amazing light weight makes it comfortable to use for longer periods than a conventional machine.
This model costs £199.95, comes with the battery and charger and delivery is free. Plus you can buy additional chargers and batteries which also fit other machines in the Greenworks range like leaf blowers and hedge trimmers.

Greenworks 24 Volt trimmer edger
Its younger brother is the Greenworks 24v Cordless Trimmer/Edger, which has a 24 Volt battery and runs continuously for 40 minutes.
And remember, when working you will be stopping and starting the machine so actual usuage time is well in excess of hour.
Very silent when running, this machine takes only 75 minutes to re-charge and you can do this it at any time – no waiting until the battery has discharged.
A charge level indicator is built in to the battery.
The trimming head can be rotated through 90 degrees so you can use it as a lawn edger and again, the line feed is automatic.
This machine, including battery and charger, has a three year warranty and costs £129.95. Again an additional charger and battery can be bought.
