Gardens ‘becoming an extension of the home’

Gardeners are more likely to be keeping their lawn in top condition in order to expand their living space into this area.

Shaun White, who is responsible for sales at Norfolk Leisure, noted a growth in the sales of garden furniture and attributed this to an increasing inclination for people trying to make the most of their home.

He claimed this went beyond a simple sales trend and is more a case of outdoor living.

Mr White stated the current economic climate was not adversely affecting the purchase of such products, but added higher-end items are more successful than cheaper ones as those who are in a better financial position will not be hit as hard by the slump.

"People are not moving as much, so they are making and developing their own properties. And it can definitely help to sell a property as well," he remarked.

Individuals enjoying their garden during the recent Indian summer experienced nationwide may not have been as successful with their pumpkin patches, as the unpredictable climate conditions have resulted in smaller vegetables, according to the Royal Horticultural Society.
