Three outstanding mowers from Hayter, a British favourite for years

Many of you are heaving the old mower out of the shed, dusting off the winter cobwebs and spending several minutes wrestling on the starter cord only to be rewarded with a stuttering engine which sounds as if it’s seen better days.

And you’ll think, that old machine has performed several years’ loyal service on the lawn, it’s given me its best days, time I treated myself to a new one.

If you want a mower that lasts, is well designed, robust and gives a great cut, then the name Hayter will comes to mind.

British made and with a long history they are among the first mowers developed in this country and many customers phone to order a new one with tales of an old faithful machine bought from new and lasting 20 years and more.

We know they’re among the more expensive mowers on our site but they are still one of the most popular manufacturers and here are three of the most popular ones which will last for yonks and give excellent results for the discerning gardener.

For a smaller lawn, around 500m2, you can’t go wrong with this ever-popular mower, the Hayter Spirit 41 Petrol Autodrive Rear-Roller Lawnmower, the “Champion of Lawnmowers” as one delighted customer put it.

See here for what other customers think about it.

This has a 41cm cutting width and with its rear roller will neat parallel stripes. This rear roller also means you can cut right up to the edges of the lawn without fears of it toppling into the flowers.

An aluminium cutter deck resists corrosion and it has seven cutting heights right down to 13mm for a really close-cropped finish. And this deck has front fins which smooth the lawn before it is trimmed leading to a much neater finish.

The underside of the cutting deck is lined with ABS plastic to reduce noise and further guard against corrosion.

The all-important engine is from industry leaders Briggs & Stratton, 125cc designed to start really easily and produce low emission figures and it has a 55-litre grass box.

There is also a friction disc which saves the crankshaft from serious damage if you hit something really solid – well you never know.

It costs £429, £70 below the recommended price and we deliver it free the next working day with a FREE bottle of engine oil.

Plus it has a three-year warranty from Hayter.

If you have a lawn around 1000m2 in area and want a really great finish, then this is probably the one for you, the Hayter Harrier 48 Autodrive Rear-Roller Lawnmower with Variable Speed (Code: 490).

This has a 48cm cutting width and a Briggs & Stratton 190cc engine which starts with a very light pull on the cord.

This mower lets you set the speed at which you want to mow and has seven cutting heights from 13mm to 60mm.

The cutter deck is plastic lined to resist corrosion and minimise noise and it also has a friction disc to limit serious damage in case you hit something solid, like a careless tree.

This has a 70-litre grass box and a free ten-litre Jerry can, FREE oil  and is delivered FREE OF CHARGE the next working day with a bottle of engine oil.

It has a five-year warranty and costs £849, a huge saving of £150 on the recommended price.

And this next one is made with lawns around 1500m2 in mind.

The Hayter Harrier 56 Autodrive Rear-Roller Lawnmower with Variable Speed has a56cm cutting width and has a Briggs & Stratton 190cc engine engineered for a long life.

A full-width rear roller leaves great finish and again the cutting deck has an ABS plastic lining to resist corrosion and lessen noise.

There are seven cutting heights from 13mm to 60mm and a 70-litre grass box to hold the cut grass.

This one too will let you set the pace at which you want to mow.

Delivered free within two to three working days it costs £1049, £150 off the recommended price and has a free 10-litre Jerry can included, as well as FREE oil. And there is a five-year warranty from Hayter.
