The recent rains have given the gardens a real boost and the grass is now growing vigorously.
The problem with cutting lawns in Britain has been around since man first planted grass seed.
Rain and warmth will make the grass grow, but many mowers find it difficult to collect wet grass and you are left with unsightly clumps of clippings scattered on otherwise perfect lawns.

This too has four ways of dealing with the grass clippings and has a strong steel deck with its own five-year warranty. And there are seven height settings from 30 mm to 80 mm.
The grass box, which holds 70 litres, has an indicator, to tell you when it needs emptying, and has higher rear wheels to make it easy to navigate on rougher ground.
It costs £419 and has a huge FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY.
Still in Germany and back to Einhell for their Einhell GC-PM 56SHW Hi-Wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower.
This one has a wider cutting width and a larger 173 cc engine than the previous one from the same company and is fitted with a two-litre fuel tank, so more time for mowing and fewer pit stops.
Another excellent collector of wet grass it has a 75-litre grass box making it suitable for really large lawns.
It costs £349.95, £200, less than the recommended price and has a two-year warranty.
Now one from a favourite manufacturer.
The Mountfield HW531-PD 4-in-1 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower will collect, mulch and discharge clippings to the back or side and has a 160 cc engine.
This mower has an anti-scalp plate so the cutter blade will not scalp uneven lawns. It also has larger rear wheels to deal with rougher areas you may want to cut like paths and small orchards.
The cutting width is 53 cm and it has six cutting heights.
It costs £379, £80 less than the recommended price and has an extra-long five-year warranty.
One on special offer from another leading European manufacturer.
The Efco LR53-TK Allroad Plus 4 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower a high-spec, wide cut mower, which will give great grip even on bumpy lawns.
This one has four working speeds from 2.5 to 5 km/hour so you can speed up on the straights and slow down on more difficult of uneven areas.
Clippings are either collected, mulched or can be discharged to the back or side and the 196 cc engine is from Briggs & Stratton.
The deck of this mower is shaped to give a strong airflow and force the cuttings out of the back of the mower.
Cutting heights are from 25 mm to 82 mm.
It costs £439.00 £60 less than the recommended price and it has a three- year warranty.
A really solid machine made in the USA, the Toro 20952 Steel Deck Petrol Recycler Lawn Mower (ADS/Key-Lectric Start) has a 159 cc engine and will adapt its speed to your walking pace.
And there’s no tugging on a start cord, as it fires up at the turn of a key.
The cutting width is 48cm with cutting heights from 21 to 98cm and this mower will collect clippings in the large grass or box or discharge to the back or side.
And to change between collecting and discharging, just pull a lever.
Another innovation on this mower is a deck wash port, so when you’ve finished mowing, just fix the garden hose and run the engine and the cutting deck will be cleaned.
This one costs £519, £106 less than the recommended price and has a two-year warranty and is delivered with a bottle of engine oil to get you mowing promptly.
Now a top machine which offers superb European engineering.
The Al-Ko 51BR Comfort Power-Driven Petrol Combi Lawn Mower (Briggs Engine) has a 51 cm cut, a tough steel deck and has been made to cope with any type of grass, wet or dry.
The cutting deck has a powder-coated finish to give it a long life and resist corrosion.
The 190cc Briggs & Stratton engine gives terrific power and it has a 51 cm cutting width and seven cutting heights. The grass box holds 70 litres.
It costs £369 and has a two-year warranty from Al-Ko.
Now a British-made mower from a company which was one of the first to manufacture mowers.
The Hayter R53A Power-Driven Recycling Lawn Mower VS ES (Sens-A-Speed Transmission, Aluminium Deck) (Code: 449).
This will collect the clippings, mulch them or discharge to the side and is made to follow your walking speed.
The power comes from a 190 cc Brigs & Stratton engine started with a key and it has cutting heights from 25 mm up to 114 mm, handy for mowing the rougher areas.
This one costs £699.00 £100 less than the recommended price and is delivered with a free, 5-litre, steel Jerry Can worthy £21.95. It has a three-year warranty.
So say you have a larger lawn but don’t want a lawn tractor. Then this is what you’re looking for.
The Toro 20976 TimeMaster Twin Cut Lawnmower has a massive 76 cm cutting deck and twin blades which create a really powerful airflow.
When used as a mulching mower, this has the effect of forcing the shredded clippings into the lawn where they break down and when it’s wet they are powered into the large grass box.
The Briggs & Stratton engine has a ‘two pulls or fewer’ promise and the mower will follow your walking speed.
Another great feature is the blade brake clutch which lets you disengage the cutting blades when crossing paths.
Cutting heights are from 32 mm up to 108 mm.
