At last. The morning sun has a little heat to it. Gutters and downpipes are gurgling and chortling with running water as the snow melts.
The grass is peeking through the white carpets covering the lawn. Wrens are singing as if nothing happened for the past week.
And very soon we will hear our first lawnmower of 2018. But our advice would be don’t be in too much of a rush to be the first person in the street to cut the lawn.
The grass has been covered in frozen snow and you don’t want to rush in to the first cut as it could damage the plants.
The chattering lawnmower will soon be heard. But maybe the sound will be a little different this Spring.
For this could well be the year that battery-powered machines come into their own.
Lithium-ion batteries now provide equivalent power to petrol engines – and there is even a ride-on lithium-ion powered mower which has recently been launched.
If you are thinking of a battery-powered mower have a look at these pages as they contain a large choice of this type of machine.
This is a mower we helped to develop ourselves.
The Redback E137CQ-2Ah Cordless Lawnmower was designed to cope with British lawns and has a 2Ah power cell that will re-charge in 70 minutes.
With a 37cm cutting width, it is ideal for medium to small lawns up to 400m2.
It is far lighter than a conventional petrol machine and much easier to move around.
It has cutting heights from 26mm to 75mm and a grass box which holds 40 litres.
A battery display mounted on the handlebars shows the charge level remaining in the battery.
The great thing about battery-powered mowers is that the charger and battery will fit all other garden machinery in the range, so for other equipment, you will only need the tool.
The mower costs £329 and that includes the charge and battery.
It is delivered free of charge within seven days with a three-year warranty.
‘Nice Looking Machine and Does the Job Well,’ ‘An Excellent Well-engineered Machine’ are a couple of reviews from last year.
