You might have heard the saying 'Fall back, Spring forward' to help people remind themselves of what to do with their clocks around this time of year.
While Fall is more of an Americanism, we can certainly understand why our friends in the US have given Autumn this alternative name.
From now until winter, much of your lawn maintenance will focus around keeping that lovely patch of green clear of dirty brown leaves. It's something of a thankless task – but nevertheless it's still a chore that needs to be done.
So, what are the most effective ways of carrying out the Autumn clear up?
For those of us who love a good garden power tool, you can't go wrong with a leaf blower – and we've got plenty of choice on our site if you're looking to make a timely investment in these handy gadgets.
However, we understand that they're probably not for everyone. Maybe you can't be bothered with unravelling the power cord every time you get it out of your shed, or your garden simply isn't big enough to warrant treating yourself to one.
If this is the case, then the best bet is to rely on an old-fashioned rake. A bit of manual labour is what gardening's all about after all, right?
For this weapon of choice, try to stick to the strategy of raking your leaves into one big pile before moving them to either the compost heap or the organic recycling bin. To make things easier, you can even dump them straight into a wheelbarrow, so you're not continually spreading the pile around – letting the wind take away rogue leaves and redistributing them across your lawn as you go.
Remember, much of this time of year is dedicated towards damage limitation in your garden – and wet leaves on the lawn can cause unsightly dead patches if they are left to rot. While tasks like this can be monotonous, they are time well spent!
