If you’re looking to take all the hassle out of trimming the lawn a ride-on or lawn tractor is the answer.

The first is the Mountfield 827M Compact Lawn Rider, an ideal mower for smaller gardens which are still too large to tackle with comfort with an ordinary self-propelled lawnmower.
This mower has a cutting width of 66 cm, so you can negotiate most garden gates and paths.
A 196 cc engine is cheap to run and easy to start with a key start and a five speed gear box means you can set the best speed for the job.
It has a 150 litre grassbox which can be emptied from the driver’s seat. There are six cutting heights from 25 mm up to 80 mm.
You can buy a mulch kit if you prefer to deal with the clippings that way and an optional trailer hitch means you can turn it into a year round workhorse.

The Mountfield T30M Lawn & Garden Tractor is a great value for money model and unusually for such a machine has a twin-bladed cutting mechanism to give a better finish to the grass.
There contra-rotating blades give strong airflow under the cutting deck and great collection of the clippings even when the grass is wet.
The grass box holds 200 litres and can be emptied by the driver without leaving the seat and there is an alarm which sounds when the box is full.
The cutting heights are from 25 mm up to 80 mm and there are five forward gears and one reverse.
The cutting deck can be quickly and easily cleaned just by attaching a garden hose and the driver’s seat is fully adjustable.
A 432 cc engine gives all the power needed and you can buy a rear grass deflector for cutting longer grass and a mulch plug is you prefer to deal wit the clippings that way.

And this third one, the Mountfield T38M-SD Lawn & Garden Tractor is the ideal machine if you have areas of longer grass to keep down, like orchards or paddocks and the verges on driveways.
Although the grass is discharged to the side it can still be used on formal lawns by mulching the cuttings.
The counter-rotating blades provide plenty of air flow to blast the grass out to the side and the 432 cc Mountfield engine has low vibration levels and is mean on fuel.
There are six forward and one reverse gears and a strong steel cutter deck to give the lawn tractor a solid feel. And it too has an attachment to make cleaning the deck easy.
There is an adjustable seat- an even a cup holder.
