River Cottage gardener to inspire great dishes at special event

River Cottage gardener to inspire great dishes at special event
Food fans who want to challenge their palate will be flooding to Lyme Regis this summer for a very unique day.

Craig Rudman, head gardener at River Cottage, will be giving a talk at a popular Horticultural Society show. At 12 noon on Saturday July 20th, gardeners will be heading down to Uplyme Village Hall to make the most of this top guest.

Widely knowledgeable about delicious, organic produce, Rudman will be imparting advice to those who wish to whip their gardens into shape.

Those heading down to the Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Society spectacular are in for a treat and be able to pick up some tips for their very own edible garden. Many flowers we plant and tend to everyday can be eaten as part of a delicious meal. So those wanting more than a sprinkle of marigold in their salad will be scribbling notes down straight away.

River Cottage, run by prolific chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, has been changing the nation's eating habits since 1998, producing delicious sustainable dishes.

Having graduated from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Craig Rudman will be giving extra special classes to hopeful gardeners who want first-hand knowledge of a gorgeous garden. Alongside him will be his assistant, Will Livingstone who will be on hand to give his expert opinion.

A children's competition for the ultimate young gardener will be held and judged by Rudman.

The green-fingered star said: "This aims to encourage children to discover the joys of growing their own food. Unlike many produce classes where appearance, shape and size are taken into account we will be judging purely on taste. That’s what really matters."

Thanks to a famous Channel 4 show, many members of the public have thought twice about their foodstuffs and made the switch to more seasonable produce. Rudman hopes to reinforce this positive message while also giving viewers a fun and interesting guide.
