Lawnmower reviews: Ibea lawnmowers – New for 2008

New for 2008, we are pleased to be able announce the launch of the IBEA range of walk-behind lawnmowers from MowDIRECT. This brand new line-up of lawnmowers has been specially engineered for today’s homeowner and there are some unique features which make these lawnmowers of particular interest. So who are IBEA? IBEA are an Italian manufacturer of premium quality petrol lawnmowers and other garden machinery and their products have been sold in the UK and throughout Europe for many years. The company itself was founded more than fifty years ago in 1952 and began life as a distributor of agricultural products in Italy for its then parent company, Swiss group AEBI. After expanding into the garden machinery distribution business, IBEA began producing its own line of petrol lawnmowers in 1984 and since then has established a reputation both as an innovator and a producer of quality garden machinery products. IBEA themselves say: “Quality is one of the distinctive features of IBEA machines, as is the constant search for new solutions to make your work easier.”

Among the innovations you’ll find on certain models of IBEA lawnmower is the exclusive Twist Traction drive system which enables the user to vary the speed of the lawnmower with a simple wrist movement of the motorcycle style throttle. Its great fun to use but also really comfortable and you can match the speed of the lawnmower to the pace at which you wish to walk. Another feature we really like on these lawnmowers is the ‘push button’ height of cut handle – it’s so simple to use and employs a special counter balance spring to make it completely effortless to change the cutting height. That’s great thinking and really useful, particularly if you’ve ever struggled with stiff manual levers on your old lawnmower. Mulching is seen by IBEA as the cutting system of the future – it saves up to 40% on mowing time and returns precious nutrients to your lawn. Those models possessing this feature are equipped with a uniquely designed and specially shaped cutting blade with angled tips – the result, says the manufacturer, guarantees best results whether collecting the cuttings or mulching them.

You’ll also notice that IBEA lawnmowers are designed for comfort with models in the range featuring fully adjustable handlebars to suit the height of the operator – believe us, if your reasonably tall and using your lawnmower for any length of time you’ll really appreciate this feature as there’s nothing worse than back ache caused by walking hovered over a mower with handles too low for comfort. Similarly, if you’re relatively short and the handles on your lawnmower are too high, you’ll probably begin to really resent mowing the lawn if each time you cut the grass your shoulders ache for hours afterwards! Other features we really like that set these lawnmowers apart somewhat from a lot of lawnmower makes include the self-cleaning system which helps to keep your lawnmower in top condition and the modern easy starting engines. There is a choice in the IBEA line-up of new lawnmowers for 2008 between their standard ECO machines and their premium line lawnmowers as well as a division between IBEA Rear-Roller Lawn Mowers and IBEA Four-wheel Lawn Mowers.
