Now. I know it’s a terrible cliché to start a piece of writing with ‘People always ask me… blah, blah, blah’ and it’s almost always followed by a total fabrication. However, in this case Iam making an exception.  People often ask me (see not ALWAYS but often, a bit more thoughtful) …people often ask me ‘Should I choose a petrol or electric chipper or shredder?’ This is a particularity apposite question at this time of year when we are definitely thinking of clearing foliage making mulch and dealing with the branches that the next tail end of a hurricane will bring down.

In response therefore, I am taking some advice I wrote sometime ago and recycling it, for ’tis the green and responsible thing to do and recycling writing saves energy (mine) and sometimes you just have to tell it like it is. So here it is…

Of course, electric chippers and shredders are generally emission free, quiet and require little or no maintenance, so they are good for small volumes of debris – and I’m not talking about Jeffrey Archers’ books here…although what better fate could await them? You will be able to use one of these electric machines for shredding leaves, small twigs and grass clippings.
