We are keen that you get the very best performance from your battery powered brushcutter from the very first time you ‘charge-up and go’. Subsequently, we hope the following guidelines and advice will help. They are based on our extensive experience, with reference to the sorts of questions new cordless brushcutter users regularly ask us.

As a preliminary tip, do read your manuals and instruction sheets thoroughly before you start and keep them to hand while you get used to your brushcutter. They will offer you advice you may well need.

Assembly: Your new cordless brushcutter will arrive ‘boxed’ and there may be a minimal element of assembly. Read the manual carefully and keep it to hand during assembly.

Preparation:

  • Make sure you get used to the weight of your brushcutter. Put the battery in and try lifting and wielding it without being switched on to get used to it.
  • Check any bolts/nuts/screws are tight before using
  • Check battery contacts and the fit

Starting: If you are have difficulty starting your brushcutter, it is always advisable to check the following

  • Make sure your battery or batteries are correctly charged as per the instructions in the manual.
  • Check the battery or batteries to see if they are fitted properly and securely in place.

Maintenance & Storage: Storing your cordless brushcutter in the right place is important but there are extra considerations when storing a battery powered model

Wet and rotting grass causes metal components to rust and grass and dirt in or around your brushcutter’s metal blades can cause all sorts of problems. Always make sure you clean the brushcutter head regularly and thoroughly.

  • Make sure you store your cordless brushcutter  in a dry place, covered if possible. It may be easier to hang it up, as this will save space and is probably safer.
  • Always give it a wipe-over before storage and never store the brushcutter with grass left on it. Never leave it, or attempt to store it or the battery, in a humid environment.
  • Before storing your cordless brushcutter away for a long time, make sure the battery is partially charged, perhaps somewhere between 30 and 70% depending on the time they are being stored. Storing on a full charge can reduce the battery life and storing on no charge can make re-charging later potentially difficult.
  • Try to make sure you store your battery or batteries at a reasonable temperature, not in any extremes of hot and cold as this can also affect the charging cycles and battery life, make sure you don’t store them near or on boilers or radiators and avoid leaving them in a hot car or by a window in the sun.
  • Try to ensure that batteries are not stored in such a way that metal can touch the contacts as this can damage them and is, potentially, dangerous.

Health & Safety:

  • Make sure you are fit and alert when using your cordless brushcutter. Don’t use this tool, or any powered tools, if you are fatigued, unwell or under the influence of alcohol.
  • Make sure you always use the brushcutter with the safety guard on
  • Before you start  check the grass where you will be working is clear of obstacles, stones, bottles,  children’s toys, large sticks and similar.

Performance: If you are having trouble cutting grass or you think the brushcutter is not cutting or running properly, here are some things to consider.

  • Again, make sure your battery or batteries are charged correctly
  • Avoid touching the battery contacts as this can affect battery performance.

Servicing: Don’t forget that Annual Servicing is recommended by the manufacturers and is often a requirement if you want to extend the guarantee beyond the first year.
