This high-grade Japanese-engineered straight-shaft line-trimmer offers the sort of build-quality and cutting-performance that are essential for the more demanding domestic gardener.
It’s driven by a beefy 24c two-stroke engine, power from which is transmitted to the cutter-head via a rigid drive-shaft that's mounted-on ball-bearings. This works to optimise torque delivery, while also helping to maximise the machine’s working-life.
A delight to work with, the Tanaka TBC-2390 Line-Trimmer is ultra-lightweight (3.6kg) and is supplied with a comfort-enhancing single-strap shoulder-harness. The provision of a compact ‘loop’-handle means you’ll have no trouble operating in tight spaces.
With the purchase of the relevant accessory, the Tanaka TBC-2390 can be turned into a hedgetrimmer (TPH-200) or power-pruner (TPS-200).
Please note: this is the new version of the hugely successful and deservedly popular TBC-240S (TCG-24EAS).
Optional Tanaka TPH-200 Hedgetrimmer Attachment
Convert the Tanaka TBC-2390 Grass-Trimmer into an articulating hedgetrimmer with this optional attachment. The Tanaka TPH-200 has 55cm double-sided, dual reciprocating blades and a heavy-duty gear unit. The blade pivots through 130° and the attachment weighs just 1.5kg (combined weight with line trimmer just 5.1kg).

Trusted Brand I have a TANAKA strimmer from 2013, the TBC 240. I have just bought a TANAKA brush cutter. Apparently it says ion the box made in PRC. I hope this also like my old TANAKA which never let me down

Good Product, not the Easiest to Assemble An excellent strimmer, light, balanced powerful does the job very well.
Took a little bit of time and effort to assemble correctly (getting the shaft to sit correctly in the engine splines) and might be tricky if you didn't have any mechanical ability.
Once assembled, the best strimmer I have owned. - Value for Money

Excellent Bit of Kit It was easy to assemble straight out the box; started pretty much first time and runs well.
It came with steel blade as well as roll of spare nylon line, all tools for adjustment and bottle of 2-stroke oil. I haven't used it much yet but am pleased so far - especially since it's half the price of posher brands and seems to be exactly the same. - Good Value

Good Value I wanted a strimmer/brush cutter/hedge cutter combination but couldn't justify the cost of a Stihl. This appeared to be a good alternative and the reviews sounded very favourable. I have used the strimmer and brush cutter, and have found that they perform very well.
It is easy to start and not too heavy. I haven't used the hedge cutter yet but it looks like a good quality tool. Over all I am very pleased so far. - Well Made Machine

Well Made Machine For 20 years I have used an IDE strimmer that I brought back from the USA, but it had gradually become harder to start, so when its plastic fuel pipes became brittle and broke I looked for a replacement. I initially considered a Husqvarna 129RJ but found that this Tanaka model had good reviews and was quite a bit cheaper, as well as being equipped with both spare line and a brushcutter blade thanks to MowDirect's special offer, I bought this one.
Assembly was easy, and this model started immediately. It cut through a mix of grass, weeds and small brambles with the standard plastic line and so far I have not had to resort to the brushcutter blade. Its a very nice machine for the money. - Impressive

Impressive I didn't start with this brush cutter but, after experiencing difficulties with my first purchase of another cheaper brand, MowDirect recommended the Tanaka.
What a difference to my initial purchase. The instructions were clear and more importantly, correct! So easy to assemble and so far starting has been very easy. Although the engine is smaller than my original purchase, it is more than enough to deal with the overgrown garden I am tackling. It is very light and vibration is minimal. It is quite simply a pleasure to use. - Excellent Quality

Excellent Quality Beautifully made to usual high Japanese standards. Well worth the money. I broke a small plastic part during assembly and replacement sent immediately by courier free of charge - cannot do better than that.
I have had one of their leaf blowers for 10 years, and it always starts first time and again is to the same high standards.

Tanaka TCG-24 Excellent Well we needed a new strimmer, and mainly one that the wife can use. We have a `Stihl cowhorn that I can use, but that is getting to heavy for me even, and the wife cannot even start it.
We searched and read loads of different reviews, but we found this Tanaka from MowDirect, read up on it (mainly for the weight of it.)
This one was on offer with a blade and line, so we took the plunge. It arrived within 2 days (because they had run out that evening). It was well packed, we opened it up and my wife put it together (yes not me, she said it was her new toy.)
I showed her how to mix the fuel, then she put it in and put the choke on full, a few pumps of priming bubble and she pulled to start. It didn't start on first pull, she tried again and it came to life, she was itching to use it, so I put on shoulder strap that came with it for her and off she went, 1 hour later she came back with a beaming smile. a nice lightweight easy to use strimmer :) - Great Value

Great Value Bought this to replace a 6 year old Tanaka tbc240pfs that is on its last legs. Seems to be just as good and feels quite light which is a bonus as I am using it commercially.
It's perfect for everyday grass trimming and leaves a good finish with the line provided, cutting quite effortlessly despite not feeling the most powerful engine in the world. Crucially, vibration is next to nothing and you could use this for long periods without too much discomfort.
For the money, with the freebies, it's a good buy and a great 'little' strimmer/brushcutter. - Brilliant

Brilliant I ordered and bought the Tanaka TCG-24EAS Line Trimmer, this is the same model as the TBC-240 which turned up, no issues here as it is just a different name for exactly the same model. Easy to fit together straight out of the box.
Straight out to the garden with it, shiny and new. Fuel mix in primer bulb pumped and........one pull , fired straight off, brilliant. The PureFire engine on this is superb, plenty of pull and cuts like a hot knife through butter.
So far I have not changed the standard white line that comes with it which cuts well. With the offer from MowDirect I also got a load of line and an Oregon blade. Excellent. I bought this to use with the TPH 200 hedge trimmer primarily as I already have a TBC 340 that is my main strimmer but with this one I get a spare unit. Tanaka, fantastic stuff, better than Stihl by far (except the chainsaws!).
With the TPH 200 (also bought from MowDirect, excellent value) I get a brilliant long hedge trimmer. I did look at the quick change units but the quality of this set up far out does the others and it literally only takes a minute to swap from a strimmer head to the hedge trimmer, admittedly a bit fiddly but worth it when done. - Tanaka Quality

I bought this brushcutter to replace a 20 year old Stihl FS76 that was in need of a fair bit spending on it. I wanted a lighter machine with a loop handle rather than cow-horns as my wife found the Stihl too heavy and difficult to use.
The Tanaka seems really well built and was easy to assemble. After fuelling up, it started easily and does a great job. The bump feed head is a real bonus after the manual feed head on the old one. I've been using it a lot today and it has never missed a beat. Not tested it yet with the solid blade that was provided but I'm sure it will cope perfectly.
I think it is great value for money and if it lasts as long as the Stihl, then it will have been a bargain. The 5-year warranty is peace of mind anyway, should anything go wrong in the next few years. - Excellent Value and Quality

Excellent Value and Quality Out of stock when ordered, but arrived quickly enough. I also ordered the hedge trimmer, which was my main requirement. All went together very well, started easily and both strimmers and trimmer are very good. All seems good value for money, well built and with 5 year warranty (no details of that in box though). I'm very pleased.
Two small criticisms;
1.The safety switch does knock off easily in use, but then better safe than sorry.
2. Removal of the strimmer head to install hedge trimmer attachment should have been easy. One Allen key bolt came out easily, the cheap cross head securing screw didn't. First the screw driver head supplied with the machine broke off, then the screw head broke down with a decent screw driver. Got it off with mole grips in the end. Replaced it with a decent bolt. Now all ok and any way I don't change the attachments every day.
However, I would recommend this machine to anyone. - Nice Bit of Kit

Nice Bit of Kit The strimmer comes in a few pieces and needs assembling, but all the tools you need are provided and its fairly straight forward.
Once set up and running the tool is light and easy to use and appears to be well constructed. It is quiet in operation with the line and performs well, (not tried the blade so can't comment).
The engine starts easily once primed (1 pull) and performs well, although the deep guard takes some getting used to. The only negative so far is the on/off switch is easy to knock with your thumb and shut the machine down but that's just being picky !.
Customer service at MowDirect is good but delivery courier (XDP) was a pain. - Its a Cracker!

Its a Cracker! I was going to buy a Stihl but when I looked at the extras that I'd need it was going to get expensive,so I plumped for this. The machine is labelled as a TCG 240 series but it is a 24EAS, just check on the Tanaka website.
Assembly simple, quality is excellent, very light and for its size, powerful and the freebies are a bonus.There is one slightly worrying thing however. On the shaft there is a decal which states that a blade cannot be used, although one is supplied, and the machine has all the fittings to fit one. On contacting MowDirect about this I was reassured that it was safe to use, and as it turned out it was!
The throttle is VERY sensitive and does tend to run away a bit, perhaps it'll calm down with use. It has coped with everything I've thrown at it and I'm certain it's going to continue.

Tanaka TBC240S This was out of stock but arrived very quickly. Slightly confused, as I ordered model TBC240S and the box which arrived was labelled differently. However I assume it has just been rebadged to fit in with a new product line, as the features are identical to the model ordered.
Very solid machine, well packed. Can't believe how light it is in use, excellent machine.
Customer service from MowDirect has been very good too, they phoned me straight away to advise of slight delay when product was not in stock.
