- Does the Job!
Does the Job! Compared to an electric unit it's obviously more practical and is well priced. Assembly was a bit faffy as the instruction book & diagrams did not match exactly but weren't too onerous. Starting was excellent - the two priming buttons are not a problem.
The only issue I've had is that, because the unit is not particularly heavy, when you pull the starter handle firmly the machine moves (rather than stays in place). And you may need to tilt the machine slightly so the rotors don't stick on the ground during starting. Similarly, on uneven ground, the rotors can stick (be careful) and the motor cut out.
But that said it does the job and is good value for money.
- A Pretty Good Machine for the Money
A Pretty Good Machine for the Money The machine was delivered promptly and well packaged. It was straightforward to unpack and mount the handles
Filled the engine with Briggs & Stratton straight SAE 30 oil and fresh petrol treated with Briggs & Stratton ‘Fuel Fit' which prevents small carbs gumming up with modern unleaded petrol if left in the machine during the season. Following the straightforward engine primer instructions displayed on the machine, the engine started on the 3rd pull of the cord.
Aerator/scarifier used first, using the bladed cassette already installed. Set the machine on its highest setting (position 1). You wouldn’t want to go any lower than this. The result was impressive as it removed a considerable amount of thatch and moss on one pass. (I didn’t bother attaching the collecting bag as I had an idea how much detritus would be removed). The machine bogged down on a few occasions and stalled which led me to conclude that the 1.3 kW motor is perhaps slightly underpowered. Nevertheless, it did the job I required it to do on my 300sq-meter lawn.
Switching to the lawn rake cassette with the finer tines was easy and straightforward using the Allen key provided. Again, using the highest setting (position 1) It romped away nicely over the lawn giving it a more ‘gentler’ rake than the aerator/scarifier and which could be used occasionally/judiciously throughout the growing season if required. No stalling this time as the motor faces less resistance and has to do less work.
Pleased with my purchase. The machine is nicely designed/engineered and of reasonably robust construction. The motor sits firmly on its plastic deck. This petrol aerator scarifier/rake benefits from the weight of its petrol engine in applying itself to the aerator/scarifying task in hand (which is probably why it stalled on occasions when using the aerator).
Sure, you can pick up a steel decked Brast or Hyundai on eBay costing more. No. This Einhell is good enough for me and for what I am asking it to do for a reasonably sized area of grass and not least it came at an exceptionally good price.
- A Little Disappointed
A Little Disappointed The assembly instructions could have been clearer. Reluctant to start from cold. Fine once warmed up.
The scarifier worked well, but the aerator kept stalling the engine even when set in the parked position. My heavy dry soil was beyond its power for aerating. I will try again after the rain.
- Good Quality Product.
Good Quality Product. 4stars across the board. I have used this machine for over a year and it has saved me 100s of hours of the old-fashioned back-breaking way of scarifying, as all these machines cost a small fortune years ago.
Handle installation is a bit tricky, but once you put in oil and petrol it's away. 3 levels of depth with 1 being the highest setting for light removal up to 3 for heavy infestation. As with all the reviews, the catch bag is a waste of time and you are far better off just collecting it all once the job is done.
Also as a gardener by trade, I have used lots of different machines and they all have their own particular startup procedure. With this one, you must prime the carburettor after doing the main prime, especially when restarting otherwise it is a struggle to restart.
Do it properly and its a breeze.
- Combi Scarifier / Aerator
Combi Scarifier / Aerator Item arrived as expected, assembled and filled with fluids it was ready for use.
As mentioned in other reviews the Bag fills very quickly, but with a lawn not being scarified for three years I wouldn't expect anything else. It cleared the lawn with ease, started and ran as expected.
So far a reasonably good piece of kit.
- Great Product.
Great Product. Great machine. The bag is a waste of time, but all in all a great bit of kit ! A good purchase.
- Very Good Product Excellent Service
Very Good Product Excellent Service Machine arrived with a broken part. Contacted MowDirect who immediately arranged for collection and replacement. Assembly confusing but once put together machine works very well.
I had never scarified or aerated the lawn so the 20 bags of moss and thatch I collected were not really a surprise (numerous visits to the HWRC to drop these off!!) I have recently used a specialised product to remove Moss and weeds so intend using the machine to rake out the dead moss - so much easier than raking.
- Great Machine
Great Machine Does an amazing amount of work quickly. In 15 minutes it did what it would take me a week to do manually. Forget the collection basket unless your lawn is perfect.
It feels solid and reliable. So far cannot fault it.
- Great Bit of Kit
Great Bit of Kit I purchased a petrol scarifier Einhell GE-SA 1335P Petrol Combi Scarifier / Aerator. It went together easy, I put oil petrol in and it started on the second pull. Set it on first setting and did my lawn.It filled the on the bag first pass down the lawn. Removed bag and finished off lawn and went back over with my lawn mower to pick up all the weed and dead moss.
I'm well pleased. It's built well for the price and I would recommend to anyone thinking of getting one excellent bit of kit. Thanks
- Works as Expected
Works as Expected Bought the combined device as I'd read I needed both scarification and aeration. The product arrived in a timely manner, complete (apart from a missing bolt which the company sent on request). Assembly was a doddle (simply adding the handle).
After adding oil and fuel the motor started on first pull. (A point on adding the oil, bit of palaver, I suspect that actually you're simply filling up to the point where oil runs back out of the fill hole). The unit comes with an Allen key which is used to change the heads, tilting the device from the front allows enough access to change these easily.
Started with scarification, the head has three positions, for our (somewhat matted, and totally moss infested lawns) used position '3' - the most aggressive. Great stuff - be prepared for a monstrous amount of raked up thatch and moss, the basket seems to have been provided as a design afterthought, most of the output missed the basket, and, in any case it would hold so little relative to the amount I generated that it's not worth the effort. Simply set the mower on high and clear up afterwards. Very pleased with result - and the grass actually looked OK.
Used the Aerator on the area of lawn where the moss was worst and needed reseeding. Seems to me like far more aggressive version of the scarifier - I was less happy that the grass would survive this, so have limited it's use simply to this area.
Overall I think this is a value for money device, I'd suggest you start with the scarifier before moving on to the aerator. I'll try again in the autumn when the ground is a little less dry. 4 out 5 stars...
