- Worthy Successor to Older Mountfield
Worthy Successor to Older Mountfield I knew the day would come that I would have to replace my 25-year-old petrol-driven Mountfield Emblem which has given me excellent service. I was keen to go with the same known brand but maybe one that would start with a little greater ease and was maybe just a little lighter to manoeuvre.
The new electric mower ticks all my boxes and I am delighted with it. No, it's not quite as robust as my old Emblem and might not last me quite as long, but it is already proving itself a worthy successor.
It is an ideal size for a smaller garden...(about 200 square metres)... it's very easy to handle and, indeed, carry up and down steps and I don't get covered in cuttings if I choose not to use the box! The cable is just long enough without an extension lead, although you always need to be aware that it won't do it any good if it gets underneath the mower!!
Delighted! Would recommend it without hesitation especially to anyone gradually losing the power and the patience to fire up a petrol engine!
- Leaves A Lawn Looking Good!
Leaves A Lawn Looking Good! The mower was a bit flimsier than I expected, although it must be admitted that my last mower was built like a tank - it had a steel deck!
It leaves a very good finish and picks up all the cut grass very thoroughly. And yes, like other reviews I've seen, the roller is a poor design and should have been made as one solid part, not in two halves. Yet still, this is a good mower......especially appreciated its long electrical lead.
- Very Happy With It
Very Happy With It An excellent machine, it ticks all the boxes for me. The manual is in solely in English instead of several languages with small print. It would be a good improvement to publish in larger print.
- Powerful and Useful Mower, Light and Easy to Handle.
Powerful and Useful Mower, Light and Easy to Handle. We bought this mower for a Youth Centre that has rough grass and play equipment to work around, to be used by Staff and gardening volunteers who are mainly female, and not particularly tall.
The main mower was very quick to assemble and get up and running, although the grass collector needed stronger fingers than us ladies had. The mower is lightweight, powerful and effortless to push. It cuts very efficiently at a variety of heights leaving an attractive stripe. It made quick and easy work of what is a difficult area.
We would strongly recommend this mower for its manoeuvrability and ease of use.
- Moves Well and Cuts Effectively
Moves Well and Cuts Effectively First I would like to say how impressed I am with the efficiency and helpfulness of MowDirect. I will certainly use and recommend them again.
My previous Mountfield M35 electric, purchased in 1978 & built to last, has just died. I wanted to replace it with another Mountfield. Alas the build quality is quite inferior but by modern standards, this was expected.
The Princess 42 EL420 has a rear roller which gives me mowed lines, cuts well with many pre height settings, an adequate grass box once assembled and has a mulching facility.
The folding handle makes it easy for storage. A good machine.
The down side is that it only comes with 50 ft cable which is far from long enough and, because it is hard wired, makes it difficult when stowing the mower, as it gets in the way.
- Great Product, Great Service
Great Product, Great Service Very happy with my purchase. The service was excellent, delivered in good time.
The actual lawnmower has performed excellently on my overgrown lawn (on the highest setting for now). Actually looking forward to getting out there again to tidy it up a bit on a shorter height setting!
Excellent I purchased this for my small front lawn, however have now used on our back lawn which is much larger. Great performance, cannot wait for the grass to grow again.
- Good for an Electric Mower
Good for an Electric Mower Needed a new mower for a newly returfed lawn, and for that area this mower is excellent. However on existing mossy lawns it proved harder to push than the previous heavier petrol mower with the same cut.
The flip handles are great for packing away, but the collecting box I find is a bit small and needs more emptying. All in all a very good buy, but I will need to keep both mowers.
- Good Addition to my Garden Equipment
Good Addition to my Garden Equipment Replaces my burnt out Flymo, which I had had for about 10 years. This is lighter, easier to use and more powerful.
Minor issue is that the cable is shorter by about 3 metres and there's no storage for it.
- Best I have bought
Best I have bought This is a replacement for a rotary Flymo, which was heavy, cumbersome, noisy and vibrated badly. I ended up using it only as a lawn vacuum cleaner after cutting with a manual cylinder mower.
The Mountfield Princess is the complete opposite... smooth, easy to handle, quiet and vibration free. I especially appreciate the well-balanced lifting-handle on the body of the machine, which makes shed storage and garden steps navigation straightforward.
The 'mulch cut' mowing option with the 'shoe' in place when delivered is as good as a my cylinder mower, especially on a dry lawn; with an excellent low cut, very fine cuttings, no mess and no need for the grass box (but I do like a bowling-green finish, so your mileage may vary).
The wheels are slightly inset, so the rotary blade cuts almost edge to edge. It is light-weight so the wheels do not dig out divets on the turn, but the back roller still gives the stripe effect. The only feature missing is a cable reel as the cable is not detachable. All in all, highly recommended.
