- Generally OK
Generally OK Delivery, etc good. Slight imperfection - I was grateful for visit from engineer to fix it. Machine generally OK but limit to height and thickness of grass and weeds with which it can cope. Some problems of outlet becoming blocked and grass not getting to collector when under some pressure. Mulching function not tried yet.
- A great machine for the price
A great machine for the price We took a long time evaluating different ride-on mowers, from the really expensive John Deere models to the cheap and nasty ones from Amazon. Finally decided to buy a Mountfield as it has good reviews wherever you look.
We have 3 acres, most of which is laid to garden with lots of lawns and our old ride-on wasn't doing a very good job so we were using a petrol walk-behind which took around 2.5 days to mow everything. This mower does a better job than the walk-behind in less than a day, has the advantage that it picks up the grass cuttings as well and is really easy to empty.
It drives much better than our old ride-on (Contessa) and also has the washing facility which works extremely well. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our purchase for the price and would definitely recommend to anyone with a large garden. It comes with the added benefit of being built and fully tested by MowDirect and a 5-year warranty - what more could you want!
- Choose a Different Brand - Unreliable
Choose a Different Brand - Unreliable This is my first experience of a lawn tractor and I have enjoyed it when it works. It’s easy to use and easy to clean and saves a lot of time. I have had this machine for almost 3 months and in that time it has broken down twice. The first time was a clutch wire issue and today it has broken down again. Issue unknown.
On that balance, I would say its a very unreliable machine and I will have to wait weeks again before it's repaired.
My recommendation is to buy something that is more reliable with better build-quality.
- Good Product
Good Product I read many reviews of lawn tractors by several manufacturers before purchasing my Mountfield. MowDirect is an excellent and user-friendly company who were able to accommodate my specific request for delivery without any fuss. The delivery arrived at the expected time.
My guess is that Mountfield products are not top of the range but then, I didn't want to spend several thousand pounds on a machine to cut my modest grass area. I am very pleased with the machine which makes light work of the grass. I particularly like the large grass box, the warning sound when the box is full, and the ease of emptying the box from the driver's seat.
The product has a 5-year warranty provided it is serviced every year. I can find a local tradesman to do that easily and the 5-year warranty is reassuring. When I had a minor technical problem after the machine was delivered, I contacted MowDirect who gave me the necessary piece of advice to sort it. (I couldn't get the machine to start and I had to charge the battery first, using the provided charger.)
- After 2 years.....
After 2 years..... I like my 1530h, but it's not been without it's problems since I bought it in May 2015. I've had a seized -starter motor, faulty seat inhibitor switch and 2 cutting deck drive belts.
To be honest, the drive belts were down to me, expecting a bit more than I should have in damp grass. Lesson learnt.
The machine has just come back from TGS after a major service, and now it fails to charge! I have a couple more checks to do, but it looks like I'm in for a new charger, and/or battery.
So. a couple or so niggles. Reverse cutting is a pain, with the press and hold 'Permission Button'. I'm going to fit a pair of rear view mirrors, and/or replace the button with a toggle switch!
The machine arrived with really sloppy steering, but that has been sorted on the last service. I'm also considering a bypass switch for the seat inhibitor, purely for maintenance reasons. *
Overall, it does the job. I sometimes wonder if I should have invested in a Gang Mower, as the paddock needs cutting at least once a week in season! Whatever, I can live with it for now. Only my Son and I are allowed on it, as he now understands the Stall procedure, to protect the Cutting Deck Belt!
---* N.B. Inhibitor switches and 'permission' buttons are important safety features MowDirect do not recommend modifications such as those suggested---
- Good Good so Far
Good Good so Far Only used the ride-on for a short while so far but very pleased. Grass was a bit damp but pick up was good, grass was not too deep however.
You can complete quite tight turns and reversing was also easy as was emptying the collector. I was able to cover large areas of grass quickly whilst sat on the mower saving my legs and ankles wear and tear. I found that going back across your mowed field in a different direction helps with grass cutting, cut more grass and improved the look.
Will come back with more experience later in the year. Going to let my wife have a go on the machine too, whilst i tidy up around the field edges with my small push mower.
- A True Review
A True Review I have owned this tractor mower now for a few months. Delivery was quite interesting as the delivery driver was unable to disengage the drive, and I had no idea as I had not read the book, we needed to push the mower some distance to get it from the lorry to my premises as his pallet lifter was not man enough to lift the mower. We got there in the end but it was hard work.
The mower itself was excellent but on about the third use the starter motor jammed open. This was really scary. The ignition wouldn't turn it off. It was screaming noise and getting red hot. The mower was in my garage and the whole thing was a nightmare. I tried to undo the battery terminal but the nut was tiny so in the end I had to undo the starter motor wire which has high power going through it. Traumatic. But I have to say the after sales service from MowDirect was amazing. They organised for it to be picked up, repaired and dropped off again under warranty by a local firm and assured me this is a very rare occurrence.
I used the mower with no problems several more times and then the cutting height adjuster jammed. On to MowDirect again who re arranged another pickup. However they did suggest that it might be a small nut inside the foot plate that needed adjusting. I took the foot plate off which is held in by one screw and was able to test the two pivot nuts. Indeed one was jammed tight, a quick turn of a spanner and the height adjuster worked again. A bit disappointing that both these things should happen to a top of the range mower but all praise to MowDirect for helping to sort it out for me.
Another slight criticism is that it uses a lot of fuel. but the time it saves outweighs that minor problem. Finally, if your grass area is bumpy then the suspension is pretty non existent so go slowly or you will be thrown all over the place and also it cannot cope with being side on on a slope.
Whilst all these comments sound bad it is a good piece of machinery that saves me hours and I wouldn't be without it. Just being honest!
- Good Machine
Good Machine Seems a good all round mower. Easy to use and strong.
- Good Piece of Kit
Good Piece of Kit Took a while to unload from van but that was the courier's fault, failed to bring a fork lift man enough to lift the loaded pallet.
It works well once you realise that if you do anything in the wrong order it won't start. E.g. Don't Lift your bum of the seat, have it in cut mode, go backwards, don't shut the collector box incorrectly, but to be fair these are all good safety measures.
Cut is neat and quick, with plenty of cut heights. Still waiting for the delivery of the deflector box I ordered at the same time so I can't comment on that yet
- A Great Lawn Tractor at a Very Reasonable Price
A Great Lawn Tractor at a Very Reasonable Price A great lawn tractor at a very reasonable price. Good delivery service, easy to get started and does a great job! I have approx one acre of lawn, including a couple of trees to get around, and the performance so far is even better than expected.
