Description

If versatility and the ability to manage a range of grass-types are important to you, then this four-in-one lawn mower from Oleo-Mac is the perfect choice. The cutting-modes are as follows: cut & collect; rear-discharge; side-discharge; and mulch; with all the necessary accessories being supplied as standard.

The Oleo-Mac G53-TK AllRoad Plus-4 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower has been fitted with a very high-powered Emak K800 four-stroke engine that employs the latest overhead-head valve technology so as to ensure noise; fuel-consumption; and vibration are all kept at impressively low levels (the cylinder displacement is a huge 196cc).

It uses only top-quality parts at every stage of construction and features a heavy-duty steel deck, so peace-of-mind is assured in terms of longevity; and it offers six preset cutting-heights (28 - 75mm), which means you'll have no trouble adapting to changing grass-conditions. Thanks to its fatigue-reducing self-propelled transmission, the Oleo-Mac G53-TK will easily cope with large areas and take inclines; undulating ground; and tussocky sections in its stride.

Extra-large 280mm drive-wheels provide a smooth run on rough ground and facilitate easier turning; while newly designed soft-touch control levers ensure you won't strain your hands and arms during time-consuming sessions. This model comes also with a huge 70-litre collector so you'll need to stop less frequently to empty.

  • A 4-in-1 machine that offers unrivalled levels of versatility
  • Choose between collection; mulching; and side- or rear-discharge
  • All accessories included
  • Powerful and technologically advanced Overhead-Valve engine from Emak

Excellent The mower arrived on time and looks great. Large wheels, a good cutting height range and is very robust.
I have a large area of grass and the machine cut the whole area (some of the grass was wet) with ease.
This was the first cut, but if it keeps going like this, it will be an excellent machine.
Only used half a tank of fuel, where my previous Qualcast would use just over a full tank.
Would recommend this product.

excellent machine Bought to replace a cobra. Side chute excellent the one on the cobra was a nightmare to keep on this locks in place.and is easy to put on and off when putting in the shed. assembly was easy excpt the throttle control bar once figgered out one cable goes in front groove rather than through vacant hole. Only critisism is shut off bar and clutch bar wrap round and tend to pinch hand if you slacken grip. easily sorted by wearing garden gloves. Mulch plug needs brute force to insert.
Great machine for the price,

Great on rough ground. OK on flat. I bought this mower to deal with a rough, bumpy area with lots of weeds as well as a large lawn. It works brilliantly on the rough ground - outperforming the elderly Toro it replaced. On the lawn it is OK - the grass collector and mulched are both fine with actual grass but don’t cope well with the large mossy areas - fills quickly and leaves clumps. I get round this by not cutting too short. Fantastic value for money.

Brilliant mower for large garden Purchased this mower in April and have used twice. My garden measures roughly 2000 square ft and I find that it takes roughly 3 hours to complete if in mulching mode or 4 hours if using the bag collector due to the ongoing emptying. The mower cuts long grass well enough but expect to feel a little more resistance than when cutting shorter grass. The vibration and noise produced seems reasonably low and the fuel consumption seems super low too. I'd say it consumed around 1.5 litres of petrol to mow my garden. The only downside is that as this brand is not yet as popular in this country than it is in other parts of the world finding Youtube tutorials in english is very limited and hard to come by so this can be frustrating at the start. This is something the brand needs to produce as the enclosed manual is not clear enough.

Sturdy Machine, Easy to Start and Operate Arrived two days after placing order, fairly easy to assemble, and started on first pull.So far used for 5 hours but pleased with performance. Cuts well on long and wet grass,(needed in Scotland) and copes easily with rough terrain. Replaces my Honda GVC160 which suffered meltdown.

Minor niggles are mulching plug is difficult to insert/remove and rear wheel trims regularly fall off, otherwise an excellent value for money machine and I look forward to next spring

Good Workhorse Bought this based on the reviews and price to replace a Hayter Harrier.

Easy to assemble, started first time and continues to start on first pull. Extremely versatile and powerful, managed to mow two large areas of pasture/long grass and then to mulch the main lawn nicely.

Two criticisms, the drive wheel covers just fall off, also the forward lever is flimsy so if you hold only the right hand side the engine cuts out - otherwise a good machine

Great Looking, Heavy and the Worst Assembly Instructions Ever Bought this Mower on a recommendation from a friend. Didn't arrive as promised due to our location, actually took three days and a weekend.

The instructions for assembly are appalling, pictures of a different model, components are shown fitting one way when in fact they only fit upside down, some pictures reversed, instructions on assembly of collector bag are completely wrong and impossible to achieve.

Throw the instructions away and follow your common sense and it works OK but is not easy. Having assembled it don't fall for the line, 'large wheels make it easy to manoeuvre', its a big heavy lump suited for large square spaces, don't buy it if you have any curved edges. I'm still considering whether my friend is still a friend. Disappointed all round

2 Year Review This is a great lawn mower, especially on very uneven ground. It goes where a "sit on" wouldn't get to and when things get bumpy, it manages no problem.

Plenty of power (although a tad slow when self-propelled). Easy to use and no faults after 2 years of use. Not had to top the oil up or change the spark plug yet, but I will probably do both this year.

I really can't fault it.

Exactly as Described. The machine was exactly as described. It arrived very quickly, quicker than anticipated, and was well packed. The only complaint we have is that the grass box is the devil to put together....why on earth cannot it come ready to put on the machine? Everything else, simple.

The mower started first pull...we are happy with it. Our previous Oleo-Mac we had for fourteen years and it still works but the carcass is rusted away. Just wish we had ordered the smaller version as my husband is now 94 and finds it a little heavy to handle. But he can use it very satisfactorily.

Good machine....can recommend to anyone.

Successfully Used for Ten Days Limited time to test this product. My first mistake was to use fuel with a small amount of dirt in it. The carburettor had to be cleaned to stop a constant leakage of fuel. Now I always filter the fuel.

Height setting is easy. Mowing with the ejector is very efficient. Not tried the basket. Walking speed for me is perfect. Heavy on slopes runs downhill fast. Cuts to the edge closely and without difficulty. Very even cut, because of weight. Starts readily.

I am very pleased with the effectiveness. Very good value.

A Reasonable Bit of Kit A reasonably good mower for the reduced price. The metalwork and engine are very good. It is let down by the plastics which feel and look cheap. The mulching blocker is a very tight fit (needing a lot of force to insert).

It doesn't have the feel of a top end mower, however, it starts very easily and with the front and rear wheels being inline, it gives a better edge to edge cutting.

The Grass Collector is disappointing. Firstly putting it together is not straightforward. It too suffers from the cheap plastically feel. Added to which is the poor attention to design detail. The collector isn't balanced when taking it off the mower when full. (Ideally, it should roll back preventing the cut grass falling out forward).

In summary - it is on par with other mowers for the same price tag.

Good Value Product I bought this lawnmower from MowDirect to replace a Mounfield machine (also purchased from MowDirect) that I had been quite happy with. I have 2 large lawns to mow, covering over one acre, and live in Lochaber which is a very wet area. The Mountfield model was out of stock so when I telephoned MowDirect they recommended this machine which was slightly cheaper.

The machine arrived after only a couple of days. As mentioned in other reviews, there isn't a lot to set up, but the instructions are not straightforward. However in the end it only took 10-15 mins in total.

The machine works well and is good value for money. It gives a nice wide cut and I particularly like the side discharge, which the Mountfield didn't have. I have a 3 acre field with rough grass that I cut but just leave the grass in the field to mulch.

Good service provided by MowDirect.

Good for Large Gardens I bought this based largely on the reviews on this site...hence adding my own as I rarely can be bothered to review things. This was a replacement for Toro mower that cost me more than twice as much and lasted a full 2 years! The speed on this is slightly faster than the Toro and is fine for me. Bit of a pain to put the grass box together and the assembly instructions are a bit naff but a little patience will see you through.

It cuts great, and the adjustable revs feature is a bonus. I have about a 1/3 of an acre to cut and this makes light work of it. At the end of summer (after the other mower died) I had lots of long grass so did 2 cuts with the new mower and was finished in the same time as one cut on the Toro...well happy:-)

Hopefully will be able to do a last cut soon and then change the oil and put away for the winter...so have only used it a bit but am impressed. If it last just as long as the Toro, considering the low price, I'll be happy but I suspect that this beast is going to keep going for far longer than that.

Based on its performance I will probably buy a few more Oleo-Mac products for the garden

Good Mower I purchased this lawnmower from MowDirect to replace an almost new Honda mower (purchased elsewhere) that was just not up to the job. I have very large lawns to mow in a frequently wet area of the UK. The Honda machine just kept clogging up.

I telephoned MowDirect and they advised that I try this machine. I had never heard of Oleo-Mac before so was a bit dubious at first, but I decided to follow their advice. The machine arrived a couple of days later, with correct tracking data provided. There isn't a great deal to set up, but the instructions are a little difficult to follow in that the images supporting the text are black and white and really small. I was also a little concerned as to the amount of plastic used in the construction, though I suppose this means it at least cannot rust.

The machine works much better than the Honda and my old Qualcast, and is much better at coping with quite long, damp grass without the constant clogging of the previous machines.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the machine and service provided by MowDirect.

My 2nd One - Excellent Machine This is the second one I have bought. My old one is now confined to rough duties like mulching compost. It has given over 5 years of faultless service, started first time and been problem free. It still actually looks good as new. The new model has so far performed well, though it is still early days.

I have had many types of mower over the years and have been largely disappointed with them, however, this one is so good, I felt I should leave a positive review.

What's Good and What's Not This machine replaces an earlier Oleo Mac which was pretty trouble free for about five years. Infuriatingly I had to get rid of it because the belt that drives the rear wheels broke and could not be replaced, owing to the fact that it was impossible to get the belt covers off as the screws holding them in place were so badly rusted that they could not be taken out. Believe me , I tried!

This time I am spraying everything like that with WD 40 at frequent intervals and will let you know in five years whether it worked. Seriously though, there is limited value in this type of review because you really can't make much of a judgement about anything but consumables until some time has elapsed.

The grass box was really awkward to assemble but not impossible. Other people have said this too but it isn't a reason to avoid the mower which otherwise seems good value for money, relatively speaking, but I am of the view that most garden machinery is overpriced for what it is.

Two Years On I have had this mower two years now (from MowDirect). It is outstanding and has never let me down (unlike our old Lawnflite ride on) and is my lawn mower of choice on an area approx 1/2 an acre because of its ease and accuracy.

The garden is my responsibility, and as a 5ft 2", fairly fit, female, I find this mower a breeze to manoeuvre. My other half can't understand why I prefer this to our ride on, but the garden looks ten times better if I use this. Yes it involves a lot of walking, but isn't that called exercise ?

Good Buy So Far! Have approx 1000m2 of grass to cut and until recently I've relied on a local gardener to do this but at £25 a pop and irregular visits I decided to buy this mower and do it myself (read get off the couch moment!)
Decided against more expensive models such as a Honda on the reasoning if this one lasted just 2 years it would pay for itself with some change too!

Assembly was easy, although the is manual odd, and putting grass box together was the hardest part but with right technique no problem. Marked assembly down as some people will struggle with this.

Have now done about 10 hrs cutting and enjoying it.

Changed the oil at 5hrs and glad I did. Not sure if supplied oil any good as it looked to be breaking down though could be a grease used during engine assembly. That was the appearance of the 'sludge' in the bottom of the oil pan. Anyway, decided to put good quality straight SAE 30 in and have just changed it again at 10hrs. All is good now so make what you want from this. It runs smoother and quieter now and starts first time every time except the first pull after a week in the shed. Just push lever to start position, even when it's hot, and it fires up every time.

Tried the side mulching attachment and works fine as long as grass is not too long.

Impressions are now very favourable for this mower and if maintained regularly I'm expecting a long reliable service from it. Good service from MowDirect, delivery spot on. Oh and the self propelled function works smoothly, at an 'intermediate' pace best I can describe it.

Putting it together was no problem and after filling with oil it started with no problems. The Build quality is good but as with most things now there is a lot of plastic! The only thing I would add is that if you are looking for an ornamental finish to your lawn this is not the mower for you, This mower will cope with all terrain, however it will not give you a really close cut,

Good Value, Great Machine Bought at the end of last season (taking advantage of a good offer on price), I have only recently put the mower to the test but it did not disappoint.

Coped well with longish grass, I used the highest setting, to be safe, and produced a very good quality cut, better than I have experienced from electric mowers on smaller lawns. Easy to use and not too tiring to operate even for an hour or so.

My only issue was deciphering some of the pictures in the multi lingual book of assembly instructions, but managed to work it out.

Ordering was easy and delivery extremely prompt, nice touch to include a can of engine oil, thanks Cass. Had not heard of MowDirect before but would recommend them.

Takes the Hard Work out of Mowing The powerful engine copes well mowing long wet grass verges or relatively long stretches of uneven rough grass, requiring no push effort. The engine revs don't slow much under heavy load.

It's made mowing easy instead of a dreaded fortnightly chore bordering on marathon levels of exertion. It's certainly a step up from my older, Honda powered, Mountfield push mower. Starts first time with the throttle lever pushed fully forward, Money well spent.

Highly Satisfied with this Versatile Mower This is my first 'motor mower' and I needed it for two reasons. A large third acre lawn and just as important a full acre horse paddock. I spoke at length with the support team at MowDirect, probably asking all the wrong questions. However they were very tolerant of me and advised me that within my budget that the Oleo-Mac G53-TK AllRoad Plus-4 would be ideal for my needs. They were correct.

The mower was easy to assemble, is easy to start, easy to handle, (it has large rear wheels, so is easy to turn) and has made short work of our large lawn. Varying cut heights is useful as is the large grass box. Also one can 'mulch' the grass and leave it as a dressing.

Yesterday I took the mower over to the paddock and it coped splendidly with all the longish grass that had not been cut in the last six months.
For the price it is an ideal self propelled motor mower.

Best Mower I Have Ever Had - Lots of Power and Easy to Use This really is a fantastic mower

Starts first time, every time and is a dream to use. My old lawnmower would always struggle and the engine would stall when tackling the tough areas or my garden but this one cuts my very long grass with ease, due to power of the engine. The mulching is good, the side chute really useful and the 70 litre bag means it seem to go on and on before it needs to be emptied.

The overall build quality seems really good as well and can see this machine going on for years. It was really easy to put together and was up and running in 10 minutes. I don’t find it slow like some of the other reviewers, but then again maybe I am just happy to use a mower like this for longer

Also worth adding, customer service from MowDirect was fantastic and they have been really helpful – and the mower turned up the very next day after I ordered it!

Will Not Find Better for the Price I bought this really for next spring, however we used it today for a full afternoon of garden maintenance on long grass and some very mossy gardens that our Viking mowers usually clog up on.

This mower (from what we have seen so far) is a real workhorse with some serious power behind it. Obviously there are many better mowers than this however they are usually very heavy and difficult to manoeuvre, mega expensive or they breakdown so frequently that they bankrupt you in spare parts!!!

As a professional gardener I can honestly say Ive never had such a good mower for the cost, starts first pull, mulches very well, collects very well, the bag is really easy to empty unlike the solid plastic grass boxes.

Cuts well through long grass without struggling and does a very neat and tidy cut on the lowest setting for the customers that like their grass like a bowling green!!!

It is a little on the heavy side but I wouldn't expect anything else from what I think is a professional mower. I replaced a £120 mower from the DIY supermarket and now mowing takes me about an hour instead of 2 to 3

I'm very pleased with the mower... but please read the instructions (which are a little weird at first) to find the right language for each section.

What a mower, fantastic, really strong quiet engine. Cuts perfectly, and good build quality. My only concern is the plastic grass collector, wish it had more metal in its construction.

If your debating whether to buy it or not, I say don't worry and go for it!!

Feels Like a Quality Lawnmower. From the order to the first cut the process has been excellent. The machine arrived on time, well packed and quickly assembled. After adding the oil and checking that everything was in place, I thought just turn over the engine slowly on the pull cord, but even as slow as I could pull the cord the engine started immediately. It sounds smooth and powerful.

A quick run over the lawn at the highest blade setting was a doddle. So far so good, really pleased I bought this mower after a nightmare with my previous Briggs and Stratton powered unit. Hopefully the "chore" of grass cutting is a little bit more fun and with a 5-year warranty as peace of mind.

Disappointing No comparison to my old Qualcast.

Whilst the service and delivery were excellent the machine is not. Assembly wasn't great, the instructions were poor and the machine bulky and plasticky. I had to ring up asking if I was doing something wrong as the machine barely moves, It doesn't feel like it's self propelled.

I have a 90ft garden, I play Badminton and Tennis but sweated more mowing the grass than I do playing these sports. One front hub cap was broken. I find the push/propel handle an uncomfortable height, the grass-box extremely difficult to remove, you can't leave the machine idling and it's difficult to start.

I really did want to like this but after 5 uses my views are unchanged... consider another option.

Good Mower but Far Too Slow Gives an excellent cut but too heavy so doesn't turn very well. Most disappointing thing is how slow the self drive is, you can push it quicker! Because of the weight it's hard to use on any lawns with a gradient or slopes/hills and takes forever on self drive to do anything quickly.

You have to start it in clutch every-time which is strange as, once it's warm like a strimmer, you shouldn't need the clutch every time. Solid good mower but far too slow.

Brilliant I have only cut a little bit of grass due to weather. The engine is very powerful, the lawnmower is so easy to use and a wonderful looking machine, strong and robust build.

The staff at MowDirect are fab. I was looking at a more expensive machine, I explained to the guy why I needed a petrol mower and he suggested I take a look at the reviews for the Oleo-Mac and call them back. I am so far so glad I listened as its exacly what I need.

Thank you MowDirect, a friend of mine had seen it and thought it was £600.00 when I told them and showed them the website he said he was going to get one.

First Cut Complete Chose this model after spending a lot of time researching the various models available. Feels good and sturdy if a bit plastic, which we shouldn't be worried about in this day and age.

Assembly reasonably easy. Instructions straight forward. Added the oil supplied and it started after a few pulls. Not exactly light to pull start, but it's a big engine. Our 12 year old can't pull start it but he could our old Mountfield..
Maybe it'll ease up.

One point - Possibly because it's new - it never starts first pull.. Even when warm, and never starts without choke. However, the cut is fantastic. The capacity of collection bag is fantastic. The big wheels cope well with our paddock like garden. A lot of mole damage, it's no bowling green.

Overall I'm delighted. first cut done first week in February grass looks good already.

PS MowDirect phone support. Delivery etc - very good. Professional advice, put across in a very friendly helpful manner. Thank you.

Poor I purchased this machine mid 2015. I decided to use the mower for a 'season' before doing a review. I have read other reviews with interest. I can't say I agree with a lot of them. You can't compare this machine with the likes of Hondas ect. You get what you pay for.

The engine has always been difficult to start. Even when warm, it still takes several pulls to start up. It is also VERY heavy when pulling the pullcord. You need good arm strength! The mower started to make a noise from the drive chain, which got worse and worse. There is very limited height adjustment on the mower,it could do with more.

Having said all this, it does give a good cut. £300 is cheap for a mower. It if lasts 3/4 years then I guess it's worth it. But you DO get what you pay for!!

FANTASTIC Purchased this machine after our previous "commercial" machine seized. Ordered on a Monday morning and the machine was delivered on Tuesday afternoon BRILLIANT!

Easy to set up and used immediately. Instructions good - assembly easy! Machine is absolutely fantastic. Used it on quiet long grass on the "mulch" setting the it just breezed along and the cut is excellent.

The machine is good to look at and reasonably quiet. The walk speed is perfect and the engine note did not change even in longer grass!!

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone for value and quality.

FANTASTIC!

Great Value Lawn Mower I live in a property sitting in a 1/4 acre plot on the side of a hill with the garden mostly laid to lawn. As an asthmatic I was finding my old push mower a struggle so decided to replace it with a self propelled model. I had hoped to find a suitable option with an electric start but my budget was limited and so after much research I opted for this mower.

Assembly: Relatively simple, but the instructions are not the best.

Build Quality: This mower seems to be solidly made of good components.

Ease of use and performance: Once assembled and set to the correct height the mower started first pull. The mower set up is such that it requires very little effort to start it. The quality of the cut is excellent and the sensibly sized collection box compacts the grass well meaning fewer trips to the compost heap. The speed of the mower can be adjusted but I have found that on maximum it still only operates at the pace of a gentle stroll, which is fine by me.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. What's not to like? Great price, good build quality and great performance.

The Garden Range Rover After having put up with the ongoing battle every summer of trying [and failing] to bribe /cajole other family members to use the old push petrol mower to do the mowing, this was a revelation.

It was easy to put together and when you stand behind it it feels like a solid and large piece of kit. Now all I have to do is go for a leisurely stroll round the garden with it and the job is done. As for the mulching function, I would never not use it again. It is hard to believe the clippings have not been removed and the lawn looks so much better for it.

Should have bought this years ago.

Excellent Machine Just recently moved to a house with a lot more lawn, and was spending 2 hours just on the front lawn with my old electric mower. Having never owned or used a petrol mower, i was struggling to find which mower to buy, but came across this one, with lots of good reviews, so thought - go for it.

It came, I set it up (no problems - very simple to put together) and went for the first cut. Actually took a good few pulls the first time to get it started, but it got there and from then on started first time every time.

Again, having no experience in petrol, I found this machine excellent - my 2 hour lawn cut was reduced to 20 mins, with 3.5 empties of the basket filling around 2/3rds of my green bin.

Made very light work of it. My garden slopes into the corner - again no problem for this beast.

Love it - will never go back to electric! I recommend anyone considering a petrol to get this!

Heavy Living local to MowDirect they delivered the mower fully assembled. The instruction manual was brief, with more instruction on it's safe use as opposed to actual use, which I found pointless. After all who uses ear defenders , safety boots and long trousers when cutting the lawn!

The mower itself has all the features I needed. It looks somewhat flimsy, but in reality is quite well constructed. It is very heavy making it awkward in tight spaces.

Its performance is excellent, the grass bin is very big and fuel capacity and use much better than my last mower which needed filling up towards the end of the session.

Started easily and performs well. In addition to a large lawn area we need to cut paths through long grass up steep inclines, and the mower handles it brilliantly and so much better that any previous mower I've had.

One Tough Cookie it Seems. Started first pull and easy to start thereafter. Surprisingly heavy and cumbersome when moving it around with the handle collapsed. Big motor contributes to the weight which also makes it awkward to turn in small areas, but the weight does help to keep the mower stable and in straight lines on uneven surfaces.

On the lowest cut the mower deck can catch on tussocks and has to be juggled over them. Handles long rough grass really well owing to the powerful motor. Big grass box means less stopping and starting to empty it, but when the box is full, it is also heavy and can be a job to shake the packed clippings out of it. Grass box full indicator a bit vague.....the box can be well packed before the flap stops moving and clippings can block the indicator outlet even when half empty, so you still need to physically check how full the box is.

Not very fast........quite a slow walking pace, but it covers a lot of area in less time than a smaller mower.

Cable routing difficult as the cables seem to be a bit too long....they could get kinked when collapsing the handle for storage. Big fuel tank means less stopping to refuel.

Overall, pretty good......Time will tell if quality is as it seems.

A Serious Mower for Large Areas I bought the mower in March, delivered next day and assembly took less than 30 minutes. This is quite a heavy mower and so takes a while to get used to manoeuvring it around trees. The large cut means I've reduced the cutting time on 0.25acres by about 20 minutes compared with my old 46cm cut.

The engine has always started first time with the throttle lever set on choke. Very powerful motor and I like being able to adjust the engine speed, and hence the forward speed, in tight areas.

Mulching, using the plastic plug supplied, leaves a good finish and for the first 2 cuts this year I didn't collect any grass. Subsequently used the grass collector which, although totally plastic, seems durable and fills to capacity unlike others I have used, which block when only half full. Plastic flap on top works quite well to indicate when grass box is full.

Quality of cut is good. Large rear wheels good at ironing out unevenness in the lawn.

Overall, an excellent value for money mower making short work of a relative large area. 3yr warranty an added bonus but I don't expect to need it now I've seen and used the mower.

Was bought to replace old 20 year Mountfield and I wanted a wider cut as have moved to a much larger plot. The Self Propulsion is great and really takes the back ache out of mowing.

Cuts well too. Have not used the other features but no doubt will do in the future. Over all a great buy. The chap who bought my old mower on E-bay saw it and thought it was a £600 machine!

Don't think much of the layout of the manual, although the details are there, if they were i.e. one language at a time, instead of one paragraph per page, it would be easier to follow.

A Great Machine Our 20-year-old Mountfield finally packed up at the start of July, which meant researching and purchasing a newer model. I needed a petrol driven machine, a large collection box, easy to start, reliable, and a wide deck to reduce the cutting time on our half-acre of lawns. This is the model I went for.

It's now been two months, give or take, since I took delivery - and I'm delighted with my purchase. Living in Ireland, I had to pay an £50 for delivery but it was well worth it.

The mower was easy to assemble - it took me about 35 minutes - although the instructions are not great. A wee bit of common sense is really all that's required (NOTE: you will need to buy lawnmower oil separately!). The mower started on the very first pull of the starter cord, and has done ever since. The build quality is good overall, but some of the plastic trimmings look like they may snap or fall off in a year or two (hence 4 stars from me for build).

The larger deck and collector mean I've shaved nearly an hour off my weekly grass cutting time. The only small caveat I have is that this mower weighs 35kg. When the collector is full, it's a good bit more. As such, if you're not mowing in a straight line (i.e. doing the fiddly bits around trees and beds) you need a bit of upper body strength to move the mower around manually. Not for the weak or unfit – so 4 stars for ease of use.

Overall, for £299.99 (plus the £50 delivery to Ireland) – a great mower at a very competitive price, for what you get. Also, I found MowDirect great to deal with – very efficient!

Grab Yourself a Bargain! This is a quality piece of kit. It was with some trepidation that I ordered a machine powered by an Emak motor. I shouldn't have worried. The motor is powerful (196cc OHV), smooth and easy starting. It also appears to be a lot more economical than my old Briggs and Stratton that served well for 19 years.

I was particularly interested in the mulching facility. I know all the common wisdom is that you buy a pure mulcher for top performance. I did however want the ability to cope with really long rough stuff by using side discharge.

I have done my own lawn in mulching mode (not really a challenge) but I have just cut a 'bit of a meadow' for a customer and it mulched that perfectly well as well. Really long lush grass would need two passes, but that is no great hardship.

It seems this model is being sold at an excellent discount as the parent company is re-branding and the Emak motor is now being offered only on its Efco brand. Oleo-Mac are being sold now with only Briggs and Stratton or Honda Engines (big premium for the Honda and I really don't know why you would choose B&S over Emak). Apart from the engine, pretty much all the spares appear to be inter-changeable between the brands.

The supplied cable-tie is useful to slide up the dead man's handle to leave the engine on tick-over. I don't suppose they are allowed to actually suggest that!

The assembly of the grass box is a little tricky and I suppose I may use it at some time. A happy mulcher!

Astonishing Quality for Not a Lot of Money! I was initially dubious when the staff at MowDirect suggested I should consider the Oleo Mac G53, never having heard of Oleo before, and having been convinced that I could do no better than replace my 20 year old Mountfield with nothing less than a bother Mountfield.

Due to lack of stock availability of the high spec Mountfield I was wanting, I was forced to look at other options, and was intrigued when the Oleo Mac was offered, at a price over £100 below the Mountfield price. When I queried the quality of the Oleo-Mac, I was advised it was 'as good as the Mountfield, and that it came with an extra 12 months warranty.

I took the risk. When the mower arrived, I was initially frustrated by the lack of easy to follow instructions, but my fears were soon allayed when I saw the build quality of the machine. And it also looks a whole lot smarter than any Mountfield ever looked.

My first use of the mower has proved to be a delight! Started perfectly. Cut perfectly. Mulched perfectly. Felt very solid yet with agile handling for such a big mower.

I would definitely recommend Oleo-Mac to anyone looking for a durable quality mower at an excellent price.

Also special thanks to the MowDirect staff who recommended it, and who had it available for immediate delivery!

Competitively Priced Mower Bought this to replace my McCullough Mower (a replacement for the McCullough was priced at around £450-£500..so decided to go for this saving a considerable amount)

The manual is a bit tedious because you have wade through pages of other languages. This also makes assembly a bit of a bore. However once assembled it all comes together quite well.

I think the quality is, in some parts, a bit cheap looking but not enough to stop it being great value. First cut yesterday. It started first pull and performed superbly. I have a very rough and bumpy and slightly overgrown garden and it handled it very well.

The power to the rear wheels and the speed control seems to make the machine feel well balanced. In a lot of ways I found this Mower better than my old one, especially one lever for height adjustment. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Great Mower For The Price - And It Looks The Part. Similar story to other reviews here. My trusty Mountfield (after 12 years service) packed up so I replaced this with the Oleo-Mac. MF's build quality has gone downhill over the years so I took a punt with this one as a suitable replacement, I looked at the Hondas but couldn't justify the cost.

So the Oleo-Mac! The instructions were a bit sketchy, overall I found assembly didn't take that long and I am very impressed with the performance.

The only downside is the weight, my garden is raised so I made some cheap ramps.

Given I have only had the machine for 1 week, the build quality is very good and the engine doesn't struggle at all. If anything it didn't really need full power as the engine has more than enough cc's to cope with anything that might be in its way.

Overall, a solid machine that I hope withstands the test of time and matches my previous mower's life-time. This is a lot of mower for your money - a mower on steroids with serious grunt :-)

Added oil and petrol and the machine started first pull with no coughs or spluttering. Starts best on low throttle when cold; cuts beautifully and works as it should. Highly recommended and plan to buy the mulching 'sit-on' Oleo-Mac in the future.

Oleo-Mac G53-TK AllRoad Plus-4 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower I purchased this Mower after reading the favourable reviews, plus the 3 year guarantee.

When it arrived I thought the assembly instructions were a bit poor and complicated to understand and find the right sections, but the only real thing to assemble is the grass collection box which for some reason comes in 3 parts!!

There is a single cable tie, if anyone could tell me what this is for? Anyway it is simple and quick to assemble and was going very quickly. It cuts very well and the weight is fine.

Would recommend this machine.

Good Value Assembly very easy. The instructions were not written by a Tech' Author (what a surprise). Apart from that, the mower starts and cuts very well.

A superb piece of kit I am not one to write reviews, but I do research them exhaustively if buy something, so it's about time I did something for others!! Firstly, the price is excellent and the low price does not reflect poor quality. Build quality is excellent. It is a hefty machine but easily used and a powerful propelled machine. I can't see anything in its league at this price.

Italy produces some of the greatest machinery for allotments and gardens - a lot of the agriculture is on the scale of our old market gardening systems. This is no disappointment and I'd thoroughly recommend it - it worked straight out the box and coped with knotted grass and weeds as high as my knees with barely a blink in the engine.

So far nothing to complain about, but it's also got a three year warranty. Unbelievable really. Go get one.

Started first time, I am really pleased with my purchase.

Excellent lawnmower, excellent price The Lawnmower was nearly all built so only took about 20 minutes to build. I filled with oil and petrol and was surprised that it started first pull of the cord. I cut my back lawn in 1.5 hours it used to take me 4 to 5 hours.

I only had to empty the grass box twice , it is very economical on fuel. It seems well built but only time will tell; but with a 3 year warranty you have peace of mind.

I would recommend this mower to anyone

Great Machine for a Great Price I bought the Oleo-Mac last week to replace my 15 year old Toro. Though the Toro is machanically sound, unfortunately its deck had rusted through. It was up for renewal.

Having read many write-ups of a variety of machines, I decided to go for G53 Allroad (promising name but it isn't a 4x4). The main drivers that convinced me were the good comments and the price. I briefly considered the aluminium deck version but with a 10kg weight penalty and £100 more in price I could not justfy it.

I have done our lawn twice now and I am very pleased with its performance. Very nice cut and fantastic traction pulling uphill. My old Toro, which had variable speed, sometimes slipped on the steeper bits and left tracks in the grass. The Mac does it effortlessly. I will need to come back and do and update in 15 years to let you know whether it was any better quality, but for now it is all: Oleee-Oleooo - ole!! And may Holland win the world cup!!!

Powerful Mower, easy to use. Decided to replace my 22 year old Mountfield "push" mower with a more up-to-date model. Decided that self-propelled was a "must", but also needed a fairly big cutting blade. Looked at current Mountfields, but was swayed by the reviews on the Oleo-Mac G53-TK and the attractive price.

The mower was delivered very quickly. Excellent communications and tracking info from MowDirect.

As expected, the instructions left a lot to be desired - chocolate teapots spring to mind! However, diagrams and a bit of common sense soon had it in one piece and ready to run. Grass box was extremely fiddly to put together, but was impressed with the capacity.

Made sure the engine was filled with quality oil before trying it out, an easy thing to miss in haste to get it up and running!

Our garden is mainly grass, the property standing on approx. 1/3rd acre, so normally takes some time to cut. The Oleo-Mac started easily, providing you remember to depress the dead man's handle, and easily cut through the dry but fairly long grass. I initially wanted to trial it by cutting the two smaller front lawns, but the mower made such light work of this job, I decided to cut the larger lawn to the rear of the house. Finished the whole job much quicker than the old Mountfield, and consumed far less petrol - a real bonus.!

Overall, very pleased with the Oleo-Mac. Economical, efficient and surprisingly quiet. Only time will tell if it turns out to be as reliable as my "old" Mountfield.

Good value Arrived a week after order placed, although it may have been out of stock. Helpful delivery driver. Came with correct manual unlike for other reviewers - I suspect it is more recent production.

Manual quite easy to follow although some illustrations could be better - one cable-tie left over with no obvious home for it. No 'exploded parts' manual.

Remember to add oil (10/30) - the dipstick had grease on it which could be confused with oil.

The handle (which does not fold for storage) was too wide at the bottom (makes it awkward to fit one handed) and too narrow at the top for the orange control panel to fit properly without bending it/driving screw in at an angle.

Grass box a bit small but the full indicator is useful. Engine has a loud rattle when pull starting but sounds OK when running. Would not start on full choke. There is no priming pump/bulb for the carb. The handle for the spark plug spanner falls through if let go, which is a bit annoying.

Generally quite a smart modern design - not built to professional mowing standards but quite intelligent and looks durable. Self-propelled feature pulls strongly. Handle adjusts all 4 wheel heights at once and mechanism seems sturdy. Engine looks very similar to that on many Chinese mowers but maybe they have copied the EMAK design not necessarily to the same standards?

No MowDirect paperwork/advice note/invoice came with the mower.

Mower Good delivery, service and good mower , especially at the price. Cut long wet grass well. I have a very steep bank - coped with that well but grass so wet and long that side discharge kept blocking up, so had to use grass box.

Sure it will cope with shorter dryer grass. Instruction manual rubbish but does not take a genius to work it out. Looks like the best mower I have ever purchased. Thanks.

UPDATE on my earlier review dated 28.3.14 Having had more use with this machine I had to come back on and update my early fears comment re the grassbox. It seemed on the flimsy side - Not the case. In continual use it has proved sturdy and has held up well.

Emptying has a balanced feel with the top handle evident, and a groove on the base which lets you tip so nicely with grip.

My Emak engine is a DELIGHT. Always starts at the hint of FIRST pull. Nice and powerful engine that is a dream even on inclines. Takes the hard work away.

I thoroughly recommend this product with the Emak engine. Frugal on petrol too.

Good quality at reasonable price I have used mower 3 times and it has worked well on rough ground, though it is better to cut long grass in 2 cuts.

The mulching system worked well to save collecting grass. The engine is powerful, starts well and seems quite economical.

Excellent priced large cut machine and a pleasure to use Hope it will stand the test of time like our old 20 year Mountfield Monarch - the new mower certainly did a good test cut this week. Did a good search for a heavy duty lawnmower and this one came up as the best one.
Like the other reviews, we found the grass box the most difficult bit to put together.
Make sure when starting that the dead man's handle is held on to start the mower, which we were not familiar with when we first used the mower. We found out after unsuccessfully trying to first start it, had a look through the instructions but didn't see anything in relation to this.
Leave the tie on the handle and don't cut it off before starting, as we did (we thought it was part of the packaging).
All in all looks as though it will be an excellent replacement.

Great machine Great machine. The instructions for assembly leave a bit to be desired but as quoted before, it is fairly obvious.
The machine itself is powerful and A LOT quieter than my last lawn mower.
The next morning after getting it built, I went out to cut my lawn after my last lawnmower died in the middle of it about a month before, so the grass had been growing about 7 weeks and was covered in morning dew, but the lawn mower sailed through it.
All in all I would recommend this lawn mower.

Excellent value for money Been looking around for a mower to deal with a medium/large lawn and this one fitted the bill. Quick delivery and pretty easy to assemble (although it took two of us to get it out of the box!). Used it last night, it started first time and mulched away happily. Can't fault it.

Good purchase Assembly slightly puzzling at first as holes in handle and brackets were too small and needed reaming out.
Grass box a bit fiddly to assemble, but no real problem.
Machine started on first pull and engine runs smoothly and it is nice to be able to throttle it down to run slowly - much better than my old machine with a Briggs & Stratton which ran very fast and was not adjustable.
Ground too wet to actually use it yet! But all looks good. It might be a good idea to include some oil in the box, though. That would ensure correct grade and quality, also make it much less likely for anyone to forget to put oil in before starting it!

Initial problem but now OK Mower was delivered within 48 hours. Weather was ideal for mowing so I was looking forward to the first cut of the year. Great disappointment. Two bolts were missing for the handle assembly. I thought that if the Italian quality control missed two bolts from the pack, what would the mower be like?

I informed MowDirect. It took another 5 days for the bolts to arrive, including the weekend, as they had to be sent from the distributor. The mower was assembled. The photos in the manual bear no resemblance to the model ordered which was annoying, but its not difficult to do. Petrol and oil tanks were filled and the mower started first time.

The grass was approx. 20cm long and damp. The mower was set to its highest setting. No problem. The grass box filled easily. When the indicator stopped flapping (a little piece of plastic on the grass box) it meant the box was full. The wet grass clippings were heavy but the grass box handled them well.

I waited a few days before making the next cut one level lower. This was easier and faster because there was not so much stopping to empty the box. All in all, a solid and sound piece of equipment. Pity about the omission of the bolts at the start.

Oleo-Mac Mower The Mower LOOKS FANTASTIC. Modern and not dowdy like so many other makes. It has large rear wheel drive and is 190cc yet appears far more torque driven and powerful which in short means I have less push moments.

The rear wheel drive takes a little bit getting used to from before where at ends you would lean down raising the front to change direction. The rear wheel is a tactical change, dropping the drive and turning. Less noticeable on firm grass but if ground soft and you misbehave you'll cause grooves. (Not just this machine - any rear wheel drive)

Early days but the Emak engine started first time. It's powerful and has a good sound. Sounds like my neighbour's Honda.

The one lever adjust height for all wheels is ease itself and so responsive, also this model on assemble has 2 options / settings for user height comfort. Very useful.

The lack of detail and accuracy in the instruction manual was slightly disappointing. It missed the needed detail on grassbox building. I managed without a problem but for anyone who reads manuals to build they'll read it twice and fathom later. There are clips on the grassbox that look a little flimsy but only time will tell.

I am delighted with my purchase. and would recommend this G53-TK Allroad plus-4 SP to anyone for the price paid.

MowDirect - no nonsense to deal with - answered my 2 calls efficiently. Free postage. Ordered Thursday afternoon - delivered lunchtime next day. Well done.

No nonsense mower Sturdy mower, easy assembly. The manuals you get are best used for keeping the wonky leg on a table from rattling!
Mower itself cuts fine, easy to fill with fuel. Needs 2/3 pulls to start though even when warm. Will put this down to the engine still to be run in.
The speed is controlled easy enough and at max does not run away from you. The adjustment of cut height is fine with only one lever at rear. The grass box seems ok - you have to ensure you have the tabs all snapped home. Only 4 stars as only used twice.

Very satisfied Very pleased with the lawnmower; adjustable hight as I wanted; very pleased with the look of the machine; started up with a nice soft chug chug motion. Quiet sound, not loud and brash, all in all a very nice looking product. Looked at many, many mowers online and off-line, compared many other machines to this one: overall for price, quality, style, cost and service from your company, you can not take less than 5 stars. Not used it on lawns yet, but will take note of the other comment and not fill the grass box to the max. Good comment and helpful.

Great overall - some issues with grass box Easy assembly (instructions not so good but fairly obvious what to do). Feels good and sturdy to operate; started first time and love the large grass box. Has halved the time to cut my large lawn. But the grass box arrives in two parts - a solid pastic upper shell and a mesh lower half - the way they join is to slide the mesh half into a groove in the upper shell - it isn't strong enough to hold the full weight once full without teasing apart on the final connector (there is a rigid supporting bracket which helps a bit). I expect this might be a problem in future and I'll have to design a fix of some sort. The mower itself is powerful, copes with longer damp grass effortlessly, runs at a good comfortable pace and is a pleasure to operate. The manufacturer needs to rethink the grass box.
