The Mountfield MT-48LI Cordless Grass-Trimmer weighs-in at a mere 3kg and features an ergonomic ‘loop’ handle; a combination that ensures it’s hard to beat when it comes to comfort and manoeuvrability.

It’s fitted with a twin-line spool with a generous 30.5cm cutting-path that ensures a speedy work-rate; and it offers a handy auto-feed mechanism, whereby just stopping and restarting the motor will see new cord reeled-out.

The cutter-head on the Mountfield MT-48LI pivots through 45° with the simple push of a button, so it couldn’t be easier to switch between edging- and strimming-modes (a guide-wheel has been provided for super-neat results).

This model can be paired up with one of two 48v battery-packs, the first rated at 2Ah; the second at a beefier 4Ah. Batteries and charger are not included in the package.

I have had quite a few strimmers but this one suits me best by far. Being cordless battery powered it is relatively light, yet has plenty of power at 48V. The cord feed actually works, for a change - no more bumping or constantly opening the spool to fix trapped line, instead just switch on and off a few times with the head away from the ground.

The lawn edging function is fantastic. Tip: cut the line in the grass first then continue to use the strimmer in edger setting at an angle and lifting as needed to cut away the unwanted portion rather than remove it with a spade. I also have the tiller and hedge cutter, these use the same battery.

Being a disabled gardener and a permanent wheelchair user I have tried many many tools, I have got to say that this grass trimmer is fantastic!

It was easy to assemble, it's light and comfortable to use whilst in my wheelchair, the wheels on the guard for edge-trimming are really handy. The line feed is good and is very easy to load new line.

As you can imagine, gardening from a wheelchair is difficult and this cordless range of tools is fantastic and very powerful! Slowly buying the whole range, one battery fits all, I love this tool and whole range well done Mountfield!!!

I bought this primarily as a lawn edger, after purchasing the long pole hedge trimmer, to use the same battery/charger. Although the instructions were all about using it as a horizontal strimmer (with nothing on on its use as a vertical edger) It is also an edger and I worked out how to assemble it and use it.

As an edger it is VERY powerful and you need to concentrate to avoid cutting into the lawn. It can do the job of a half-moon edger as well shears! A bit of practice on a less critical bit of edging is advisable. It is best if you keep it running rather than start/stop and at full speed it is very noisy. By changing the tilt of the machine you can control the depth of cut. Oh and the automatic line feed is brilliant!
