Description

Representing exceptionally good value for money, the New Zealand-built Masport RRSP 22 is a premium-quality rotary lawnmower with an expansive 54cm cut.

Suitable for large-area use, it has a full-width steel roller and will produce a beautiful striped finish with extra-wide bands. The spring-assisted, single-lever height adjuster is effortless to use and enables a close cut of just 18mm to be achieved for that perfect bowling-green-style appearance.

The Masport Rotarola RRSP-22 Lawn Mower has a power-drive to the rear roller for reduced-effort mowing, and comes equipped with a powerful 163cc Briggs & Stratton 675 EXi engine. This latest-generation power unit offers improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions than older engines, saving you money and reducing your impact on the environment. It’s also far quieter than earlier engines, making it the perfect model to upgrade to from noisy, high-polluting machines.

With years of research and development going into the design and manufacturing of this mower, you can be confident you're purchasing one of the best-performing machines of its type available.

The superbly-engineered cutter-deck housing benefits from a full-width rear-ejection channel, which ensures unbeatable collection-performance in both wet and dry conditions; while inset front-wheels combine with the solid-steel roller to enable you to cut along the borders of your lawn, thereby reducing the amount of post-mowing strimming work required.

Made from cast aluminium, the deck on the Masport Rotarola RRSP 22 Self-Propelled Petrol Rear-Roller Lawnmower provides excellent strength and durability. It will never rust, and has been built to last for the lifetime of the mower.

Other quality features include ball-bearing mounted wheels, which won’t become stiff with age; and extra wide treads which provide greater stability and help protect your lawn.

The Masport Rotarola RRSP 22 Self-Propelled Petrol Rear-Roller Lawnmower boasts a generously-sized 65-litre ‘Aero’ catcher, which has been designed to really pack-in the grass so as to limit the number of trips to the compost bin. It's made from fabric for improved airflow, and has a hard top to keep the dust down when mowing in drier conditions. A rubber underlay adds to its durability. The catcher is also fully collapsible and works with a foldable handle to make storage and transport a breeze.

Great Mower I've had my mower for 5 years. I use it 5 days a week while the grass is growing. I'm self employed and it's never let me down. It works great in wet conditions. Leaves a great stripe. I'm that happy with it I'd buy another tomorrow or recommend to anyone. I cut small lawns and some massive lawns and its up for the challenge. Great mower

BEAUTIFUL MOWER This is my second season with this mower, having bought it new last August. Indeed it is my first new mower, having had second hand mowers that were difficult to start and use.

I had never heard of the brand Masport before but was impressed by how low it could cut, (10mm), I always like to keep my grass short, not just because I have a croquet lawn but also I don't want to be cutting it every week!

Very easy to start, with the Briggs Quantem engine, this machine runs and cuts beautifully. It gives an excellent stripe,(although would be more pronounced if I didn't cut it so short).

Someone had written in another review that the bag is difficult to empty, having no rear handle. This has not been the case with mine, as it has a handle on the rear to empty. It would be hard to use without it! My only minor quibble is that when the bag gets over full, and you attempt to take it off, you have to tip it up slightly to remove it. This has the effect of tipping grass between the bag and the rear of the machine. It is no real hardship but I always think if the manufacturer could make some sort of clear viewing window, you could see how much grass is being collected!

I had two old roller Mountfields before where the engine drove the front wheels. They were good but not as well made as this rear roller drive machine.

Although the Masport is a heavy beast, the power drive pulls it along nicely. Indeed, It is amazing just how much energy you save with a self-propelled lawnmower compared with a push one. Using the latter always left me tired after 70 minutes mowing!

I very nearly opted for a ride-on but with the contours of my large lawn and no real storage shed for this type of mower, I was glad I went for the Masport. I am hoping that it gives me many years of reliability. I would certainly recommend it very highly.

Cuts Great but an Underpowered Drive System Lets it Down. I have a large area of grass to cut, some of which is formal lawn, the rest being more untamed and on a slope. I had hoped that the mower's power would help with the sloping areas but am disappointed that it doesn't. Instead I am left with pushing a heavy machine up the slopes. A stronger drive system is required, one which can be varied depending on need.

Otherwise I have found the grass cutting capability to be very good, it cut long wet grass and collected it really well. It is good on the formal lawn area.

Build quality seems good but I must temper this comment with the fact that I have only used it twice.

Excellent machine for the price Very good machine, was very surprised how good it is.

Purchased this instead of buying the new Hayter pro which I have always used for my business. Fills the gap that Hayter and Honda have left.

The Masport is not over engineered and is well built with no plastic to break. The engine is very powerful meaning it really packs the grass into the large box. It is also far faster than the Honda or Hayter meaning this things takes several minutes off each job, so will very quickly pay for itself. Not great in the wet but no mower is really.

A fantastic mower for the money

Excellent Excellent machine which I've used for 3 years. It will even tackle very long grass. It has a smooth roller, so is not suited to wet grass, which will jam the machine anyway. I had 2 Mountfield Emperors which worked for 25 years, but the new ones are Chinese, so I'd rather someone else tested them. The drive train is a lot more substantial than the Mountfields and I would recommend these mowers. Build quality is great, and the makers will respond to E mails too! Engine is B and S so enough said!

re drive system With reference to Rob's comments about the drive system: it is a heavy machine if you don't adjust the drive cable properly. I have and now it's fine. I have used the mower for the past two years up quite a steep lawn so I know that it can be heavy but there is a large adjustment screw on the cable take up the slack until when you engage the drive the roller won't pull back (with the mower not running) the drive will work fine however there are a number of other small issues. Firstly keep an eye on the belt tension that also stretches but there is adjustment on one of the idler pulleys but grass does pack up around the gearbox and can overheat the belt and I have found trying to use the mower on wet grass is hopeless: the collection is not great at best and in the wet totally useless. Just in case anyone is wondering I am no 6ft muscle machine even soaking wet I am under 11 stone and 5ft 9ish. If masport made a few tweeks on this machine it would be a real contender with the Honda. It is certainly better than the Hayter Harrier and will last longer than the Mountfield.

So heavy to push around, inadequate drive system I've had this mower for a month now and have used it 4 times to make sure this review is fair from my point of view. The machine is well built, looks the part, and does a decent job of cutting the grass. However, the rest of this review is pretty negative I'm afraid. I'm no five stone weakling and I'm used to fairly heavy work in our largish garden. But this mower is way too heavy for normal domestic use, despite an excellent Briggs and Stratton engine. Basically, I think the drive system is hopelessly inadequate for the weight of the machine. The mower needs a good shove to get it moving after every turn, it's hard work to get the job done! The website talks about "effortless mowing", in my opinion that is very misleading, it's just the opposite!
I had wanted to buy the Mountfield 22" SP roller mower but it was out of stock. I'm so sorry I didn't wait a week or two for it to come in. The phrase "caveat emptor" comes to mind, and I know I'm stuck with the Masport. My fault for settling for something I wasn't sure about.
