What are aerators used for?

An aerator’s main job is to dig right in to the soil of the lawn and allow air in to engender good root growth and enhance drainage, delivering a lush, green and healthy lawn. (See image below)

Aerators tend to be broken down into two types.

  1. Hollow Tine Aerators
  2. Spiked aerators.

Within these categories there are

  • Walk Behind Aerators
  • Tow Behind Aerators

Walk behind aerators still take a considerable physical effort, and it is possible to carry out this task with a fork, but it is very laborious and a proper, dedicated manual, mechanical or powered aerator will do a faster, easier and more efficient job.

This job is usually carried out between the months of March and November.
