Description

If your lawn's looking a bit tired, discoloured and patchy due to a build-up of moss and thatch on its surface, this premium petrol scarifier from superior European brand Feider provides the perfect solution to the problem!

Its 18 sharp-tipped steel blades will gently - but comprehensively - tease-out any accumulation that might be stifling growth, in turn enabling the turf to thrive and flourish once again. With the working-depth set to a lower position, the blades will cut practically invisible slits in the ground so as to provide water, oxygen and vital nutrients with better access to the root-system.

The Feider FST212 Lawn Scarifier has been equipped with a most-powerful-in-class 212cc air-cooled four-stroke OHV engine that develops an impressive 3hp; and which features an extra-roomy 3.6-litre fuel-tank that minimises downtime and maximises productivity.

Large, 17.5cm-diameter double-ball-bearing wheels ensure a comfortable, low-effort run across rough or rolling terrain; while a sizeable 45cm working-width and capacious 35-litre thatch-catcher mean you'll be able to cover a substantial area (up to 2000m2) in quick-time.

This model gives you the choice of eight preset working-depths (-15 to +5mm), so you can select the one that's the best match for the condition of your lawn.

Further important features include a steel housing for rugged durability; and a foldable soft-grip handlebar for easy storage and improved user-comfort.

Please Note: This product currently ships with a dark grey livery (and not orange).

Features

  • One of the most powerful homeowner-use petrol scarifiers on the market today

Powerful and easy to use This was purchased to take on a difficult uneven and large lawn with a huge amount of moss and has proven up to the job. Delivery was quick even during COVID19. Assembly is fairly simple. Overall , build quality looks good though the handles could perhaps be a bit stronger. It's a heavy machine but pulls itself along when powered. Filled with oil and started without difficulty. Take caution with the height adjustment, on my lawn the highest level pulled out an incredible amount of moss and left the little grass I have intact. Just leave the collection box in the shed - like all these machines its way too small to be effective.

Lovely Machine It does what it says, certainly takes out the thatch and moss very well. I only have one comment and that is, with the engine being on one side of the machine it makes it slightly out of balance, tends to cut in deeper because of the added weight of the engine being on the side. It would be good if the engine was situated in the middle of the machine.

So far so brilliant Good service from MowDirect. The assembly instructions were not so good as they related to a model prior to the latest EU directive. MD were swift to clarify the position.

What a mover! Mover of thatch and moss, that is. And on the highest setting. Have to wait until the ground is a bit more damp to do more but so far so brilliant.

A fantastic piece of kit and great value Incredibly impressed with this scarifier. Quality is excellent and has sufficient power to work hard across large areas of grass. Easy to set up and use as the instructions are clear and straightforward.

Fantastic Customer Service and Quality Item Ordering and delivery was spot on. Good tracking and helpful driver at the door.
The scarifier works like a dream and strips out unbelievable amounts of dead thatch/moss and weeds.
Be warned it will scalp your lawn in seconds so use the height settings wisely.
All in all very pleased with the scarifier and a big thumbs up for MowDirect.

Good service and an excellent machine The service we received was first class.
The delivery arrived within a couple of days of placing the order
The machine was straightforward to assemble and started easily.
The build quality is good and I am sure that it will work well for many years.
We scarified 2 lawns each about the size of tennis courts, it did a great job, the only problem is collecting the huge amount of thatch that the machine takes out.
The bag for collecting the thatch is small and we found that for our purposes it was of no value.
Overall an excellent product, and great value for money.

Fantastic Machine Did so much research and eventually went for the Feider unit, added the oil as recommended and assembled the handle topped up with fuel and after 3 pulls into life it went, I set it quite high to start with and adjusted accordingly and was totally amazed at what this machine pulled from the grass, after I was done the garden looked a right mess but set the mower up to pick up only and it all looked great afterwards , what I did notice is how uniformed in height the grass looked and realised that this should have been done years ago!! and now after a few weeks it looks amazing, this unit is well made and I highly recommended it Mark

Good machine Been looking for a scarifier for a while now and with this being on offer I could not resist. The machine is good quality but like most reviews it does not come with much oil in it. I could not find anywhere what oil it takes in the manual or online. In the end I used 10w40 oil which seemed to work well. Being picky, If I was going to change anything on it. It would be the back wheels they are not on a axle and look quite flimsy but time will tell. Mow direct as a company was amazing. Great communication and super fast delivery to the Highlands. I will be buying from you again!

performs well The actual machine is very good and really gets to work lifting out the moss but be careful not to set the height to low other wise the machine will run away with you. Unfortunately the collection basket is a waste of time, more of an after thought when the machine was being designed as it doesn't fit properly, the moss tends to fly out the top of the bask through the gap as the basket handle is in the way of the machine back flap, just make sure that you have a good lawn rake to clean up after.

Great machine but collection bag has such a small capacity that it is useless Well made machine, easy to assemble and use. Does a very good job of dethatching and pulling out moss from the lawn. You need to be prepared to rake up the debris as the collection bag is of very limited capacity and fills up really quickly.
Apart from this all good and at a good price.

A good machine This is a simple to use machine. No throttle, no clutch. Just start it and off it goes. The wheels are not driven, but the rotation of the blades pulls it along.
On delivery, it is easily put together, but remember to put oil into the engine before fuelling and starting.
If you've not used a scarifier before, check your lawn for stones, it doesn't like stones.

I've had mine a couple of weeks now, I've scarified my lawn, my daughters lawn and my sister in laws lawn. It starts easily and does the job well.

Pro's:
Easy to put together and to start.
Seems reliable.
Simple construction.
Does the job well.

Con's:
The pull cord for starting runs right back to the engine. An extended cord attached to the upper handle (Which is common on most lawn mowers) would be a worthwhile improvement.

A good machine. I'm very happy with it.

Awesome for the money Ordered on a Saturday after reading the reviews here and on other sites. I've had an electric lawn rake for a few years and have never really got my lawn looking decent, it does a half decent job but can't ever get all of the koss out, and doesn't get into the ground.
This machine arrived Tuesday morning, took 15 mins to put together (handles need bolting together, the rest is done). There is a tiny amount of oil in the machine as delivered but it needs you to top it up.. and then petrol is all you need before you start it. It's easy to start, you just need to set the choke switch on the carb body and it started first time for me.
I gave it a run tonight and was amazed at even the highest setting at how much thatch and moss this has removed.. at least a wheeley bin full on the first pass of my 25x60ft garden. I reckon with about 3 or 4 passes this will get every inch of moss out of the lawn, and with progressively lower settings will scarify into the lawn and make a great base for reseeding the bare patches . For the price (I bought on a deal for just under £290) this is a superb machine.. so glad I got one!

A good buy Very easy to assemble and the free oil very welcome. Started first time and was surprisingly quiet. Scarified well but the blades do not reach the edge of the machine. The collection bag is totally inadequate if you have any degree of moss or thatch so be prepared to rake. Having only used it the once i am very pleased with it

OK for Price Just the handles need assembling, easy job. It comes with the blades attached, I don't know if you can get or change for tines.

Started 2nd pull on recoil rope. It's not really a professional machine but I will only use it for small lawns and if looked after should be adequate for a few years!

As for it's efficiency it does the job. Light enough to load and unload from my van.

At the end of the day, does what it should.

Great Purchase - Very Pleased We bought this to create a wildflower meadow from an existing (large) grass area. This machine was perfect for opening up the soil and removing thatch etc., to allow over-seeding.

Very fast, very powerful machine with an excellent result. Don’t bother with the catcher and be prepared to rake up a *lot* of material.

Very Pleased & Good Customer Service Very pleased with machine but the user instructions did not relate the motor fitted to it . However, MowDirect customer services were very helpful the problem was soon explained the scarifier works very well.

The grass catcher could be a lot bigger but using it without and raking up afterwards was OK.

Well Impressed! The machine I wanted was out of stock and MowDirect recommended this one. I wasn't sure as all my other machinery is Echo, Husqvarna etc. However, this is really impressive.

It arrived well packaged and assembly is simple; it seemed to have some oil in it but not enough so topped it up and - check this - it started first pull!

Onto the lawn to repair a 25m2 patch and the highest setting removed dead thatch and growth with ease and a lower setting raked the soil surface and flattened a few ant bumps. Seed, roll, feed and nice job done! I am well pleased and build quality is fab.

As with all scarifiers, use high settings and go over a few times, rake up the debris and just use the collection bag at the end. If I could have one feature that is missing currently, it would be to be able to disconnect the drive without stopping (and restarting) the engine. However, this was £250 and I have just ordered another Feider machine - praise indeed!

BTW delivery is by DX and 'between 8 am and 6 pm' which is a pain but is free. Very happy gardener and thanks to MowDirect for pointing me in the right direction:)

Well Specced Machine The machine duly arrived after two days from order. It took half an hour to add oil and petrol and then we were ready to get going. The scarifier on the lower settings is quite fierce and I removed much of the dried/black moss and the grass in a short period of time on the back law. On the other two lawns, I used the second setting and, although it removed much of the black moss, it left quite a lot of grass. I know that I will have to use it right through the growing season.

I would recommend purchasing the 272litre dumper bags for the amount of moss removed. I took a dozen bags off each lawn down to the tip as I didn't want to use them as compost.

A well worth machine to purchase but do think through how you are going to handle the resultant moss as there will vast quantities left over.

Great value for the Money I bought the scarifier at the end of March, I was a bit sceptical about buying it because of the price at the time it was only £250 and most of the other scarifiers were a lot more expensive.

I can't believe how good it is. it's really good. On the negative side, like all scarifiers, the box for collecting the moss is a waste of time so don't even use it.

When I got the machine the wheel was broken, must have been damaged on transit. When I contacted MowDirect about it they offered to send me a new scarifier but I said to just send me a new wheel and changed it myself, so I was really happy with the after service, first class.

Value for Money I scarify my grass twice a year so didn’t want to spend loads for something that wasn’t going to be used. My neighbour has a 20-year-old £1,000+ machine which I compared to. The garden ground is very stony, the grass being laid on not very well prepared earth, I tended to use the height setting very high as, when set lower, stones were pinged and forward movement impaired.

I think I smelled the drive belt under pressure, so much so I had a look, everything OK. This was of no fault of the machine, rather my builder should have riddled my garden before he laid grass.

In conclusion, worked as well as my neighbours unit, engine made by a Chinese manufacturer of repute ( I Googled ) not a lot to go wrong really. One of the benefits of dealing with MowDirect is they can be relied upon to support their customer if anything did go pear-shaped which given my initial use seems very unlikely.
