Description

This supremely well-equipped petrol rotary-mower from innovative German manufacturers Einhell is characterised by its exceptional versatility, superior build-quality and attractive price-point.

Capable of managing a wide variety of grass-conditions, it boasts a 5-in-1 combi design that lets you choose between any of the following cutting-modes:

Mulching

Mulching is particularly suited to summer and late-spring conditions and saves time by eliminating the need to bag clippings. The decomposing mulch will furnish the turf with essential nutrients and moisture.

Collection

Collection is ideal for tackling heavier springtime growth and will enable you to achieve a neat and tidy finish.

Rear-Discharge

When in rear-discharge mode, an angle-adjustable deflector makes it possible to manage long grass.

Side-Discharge

Side-discharge is great for rough, overgrown areas and can also be used for topping lawns during the summer months.

Cut & Drop

The cut & drop function is designed for informal areas where bagging clippings is unnecessary.

The Einhell GC-PM 52 SHW incorporates Einhell’s new-generation Vortex technology - a combination of a single-piece sheet-steel cutter-deck with the rotating action of a specially-shaped blade works to bring each blade of grass into an upright position before cutting, thereby ensuring you’ll be left with an enviably neat and even finish.

Power for the blade is supplied by a 173cc four-stroke air-cooled Einhell engine with an OHV configuration for smooth, low-vibration performance with reduced fuel-costs; and Einhell’s Quick-Start system for reliable pull-starts with minimal effort expended on the part of the operator.

A handlebar-mounted starter-cord grip makes life easier on your back; while an extra-large one-litre-capacity fuel-tank speeds the job up by reducing the frequency and number of top-up stops.

Ideal for gardens with rough-grass areas and slopes, the Einhell GC-PM 52 SHW boasts an effort-saving self-propelled drive which can be disengaged for safe and accurate mowing around and between obstacles.

Its Hi-Wheeler design confers enhanced long-grass manoeuvrability and improved traction; while its integrated carry-handle makes it easy to shift to and from the lawn.

Other features of note include a three-stage height-adjustable handlebar with separate positions for both storage and cleaning; and a soft-grip that minimises vibration-transfer to the user’s hands for a less tiring drive.

Please note this lawn mower does not come with cleaning scraper.

Great all rounder. A great machine. I don't normally do reviews however this product deserves one. This was recommended by the staff for my needs and I have a very large lawn maybe half an Acer. My lawn has slopes and flat areas. It manages very well climbing the slopes and mowers very consistently. On problem but on my part which is don't try mowing too much off as this makes the mower struggle a bit and keeps stopping. What you should do is only take on certain amounts on very tall grass. My bad!

Overall, very happy with buy and not bad price. Hope it lasts me a good few years.

Great value for money I have had the lawnmower just two weeks now, but have been very impressed in that time. Delivery took just over a week due to current difficulties, but when it was time to assemble it was very easy and oil was supplied as well. It started first time as other reviews indicated it would. The machine is slightly heavy but relatively easy to handle. All in all I am very pleased so far.

A good purchase I have used it twice and am very pleased with the performance.
It starts easily and copes well with my bumpy sloping lawn.
It arrived quickly and was simple to put together ( just screw in the handle).
It is quite heavy but this is no problem as it is self propelled and I need a robust machine.
I like the side discharge chute.

Well built piece of kit. Only having used the mower twice it will be interesting to see how this machine performs in a couple of years, nevertheless I am really pleased with it so far.
Relatively easy to assemble, a choice of 3 heights for the handle, a very easy pull start located on the handle, easy to adjust cutting height, a good size grass bag which is easily detached for emptying plus a "bag full" indicator, low vibration on handles and a very quiet engine which ticks along nicely until automatically increases in revs to deal with the more difficult areas.

Looks and works great Bought this from mow direct at a great price and am really pleased with it. Minimal work to set up and works really well. Looks and feels like a top quality mower and is easy to start and use. I’m not sure why mower suppliers don’t include a litre of oil to get you going with your mower but this is the only tiniest of gripes that I’ve got. Delivered promptly even in these strange times and the whole buying process was simple. Overall I’m totally satisfied with everything.

Great mower , excellent value As pretty much everybody else who has reviewed this mower has said, superb value for money and great quality. Yes it's quite heavy... but reassuringly so in my opinion. Started on first pull ( after a couple of 'dry' pulls to work the oil round) engine has a very relaxed tone and considering some of the gradients in our garden are actually quite difficult to walk up , it doesn't 'labour' at all and cuts consistently in all conditions
Can't recommend enough ... a joy to use!

A tad heavy and could do with a lower cut, but a great mower

A Beast of a Mower After my last mower broke down one too many times and then so did my backup hover mower, I researched and bought this beast. And it is a bit of a beast; it's a bit heavier than I was used to and it takes some time to work out how to stop it once it's going, and curves/corners are a bit fiddly. However the build quality is excellent and it's fast and easy to put together.

I filled the oil from the bottle provided with it, filled the petrol and with a small puff of smoke it started on the first pull. Once going it was brilliant, my back lawn is quite big and, due to previous mower failures, the grass was quite long and a bit wet as well. This mower just chewed it all up, really quickly. After I'd done 3/4 of it I emptied it (but didn't really need to, I was just used to emptying my old one 3 or 4 times by then).

Solid but Heavy A very good machine. Having used 3 times, it starts every time easily. It was swiftly delivered and was ready to go within 10 minutes. A very solid machine that does the job, the only downside is as follows; it's very heavy and needed two people to get out of box and assemble - my wife has used it and struggled a bit but got used to it.

The speed of the self propulsion is swift and in tight locations causes an issue, you get used to it but does drag you along. All in all a very good buy.

Bigger Lawn to Cut! We have just moved into a bigger house with a large (70 x 90 foot) lawn. Prior to this we had a small lawn which was easily cut with a hover mower.

I knew I would need a petrol mower and did a lot of looking in my local DIY stores, then started looking on-line. It was not long before I found MowDirect and placed my order. I had to wait a couple of weeks for the shipment to arrive and in the meantime my son and I struggled for an hour and a half to cut 8 inch high grass with two hovers.

When the Einhell arrived I assembled it with no problem, filled it with the oil supplied and got a can of unleaded. After reading the instructions, sat it on the lawn and pulled the starter cord. I burst into life first pull, I pulled in the clutch lever and we were off. I thought it might take a while to get used to it, but it was so smooth and easy to operate, it took 20 mins to do the job. It is not as noisy as I thought it would be and cuts really well, even though the grass is quite uneven.

I would recommend this mower and MowDirect.

Poor Choice as Replacement for my Old Mountfield I am an experienced gardener. This machine is well made, wonderfully easy to start and has good features BUT....it's awful to use. The machine runs too fast. The speed is fine when you are covering long distances but as you near the edges and take it off auto run it doesn't stop well at all, so either the front wheels annoyingly shoot in the air or you run straight over the edge. If you try to compensate by deliberately stopping short of the edge and push it manually you quickly find out how difficult it is to manoeuvre so the net result is a very poorly cut lawn.

Worst still, the engine is not quiet and on large lawns I would definitely recommend ear muffs.

Stunning Machine! This is my first foray into petrol lawnmowers, so I was extremely apprehensive about selecting the right one for a large lawn we now have. It arrived next day as promised and was duly assembled.

Straight from the box it was just incredible. There is some weight to the machine but an overall feel of stunning quality. Assembly was very straightforward using the handbook provided and a simple top up of oil, (which was provided) and a trip to the garage to get unleaded in the top quality can, also provided I was ready to go.

The start up was brilliant and very simple and the engine a lot quieter than expected and with its self-drive it simply glided over the lawn. It was easy to set the cutting height and was set to mulching mode which is a great addition. Very easy to manoeuvre with the soft-grip handles and a sizeable lawn was completed in no time.

The results were incredible, and I now find myself hoping for the grass to grow again quickly so I can once again use what is for me the perfect choice in lawnmowers.

First cut Bought this to replace my worn out Mountfield SP535 which had given me a number of years good service before corroding and shaking the bolts its out.

Assembly was easy and , had it set up in 20 minutes and added the oil which came with it thanks MowdDirect). Started first time.

Used the mower today for the first cut of the year and it was easy to use, despite it being a large cut. Took about 5 minutes to get used to the feel of it and after a while dawned on me that the mulching deflector had come fitted and so it was not collecting grass. Soon took it off and found the grass box easier to handle than the old Mountfield. So all in all very satisfied with this machine and would recommend for the medium to large lawn.

The cutting height adjustment is easy and a joy to use.

Great service from MowDirect but mower quite heavy. The mower arrived exactly as predicted by the delivery company, couldn't fault the service. The mower iwas well packaged but you start to realise just how heavy this product is when removing it from its packaging.

Assembly was a doddle & was using it within half an hour. The build quality isn't the best but fair for the price!

The first thing I noticed was just how thin the deck is, it will have to be kept clean to stop any rust as I don't think it will last long if not looked after. The motor is very easy to start (1st pull) but is a bit annoying, in that you have to use the start position every time even after emptying the grass box.

The mower does cut well but then it is brand new. The height adjustment is easy with just one lever & overall not bad for the price.

This mower is best used on open flat lawns as around bushes & awkward areas etc is where you notice just how heavy it is, so be warned, if you are a little frail or not as strong as you might be I would think carefully.

Excellent buy Always used Mountfield mowers until now which have had either Briggs & Stratton or Honda engines and always been reliable. Thought I would take a chance on the Einhell having read reviews and also the price it was available at.

I haven't been disappointed. Its a robust machine, in fact thats my only negative as it's quite heavy compared to my last aluminium decked Mountfield.

Having said that it's reasonably manouverable once you get used to the power drive. I hadn't expected an engine of this size to be as powerful and initially I went flying up the lawn but got the hang of it very quickly.

Seems to pick up grass very well even when cutting through long stuff which was damp - my lawn was about 7ins long as old mower failed on return from 3 weeks holiday.

Making life easier As a volunteer groundsman at my local cricket club, spending more time trying to get the old mower working than actually cutting grass, I managed to get the club to invest in a new Einhell. Best 300 quid we ever spent! We dont have a massive amount of 'off field' area to mow but have been instantly impressed by the cut this mower produces.

So easy to use and to put together. With a trip to the petrol station for the correct oil I was merrily mowing in no time. Proper good bit of kit.

Fantastic value Aside from the usual requirements - cutting width, grass box size etc, I picked this mower purely on the basis of reviews. I am happy to say they were all justified. "Beast" and "Animal" I have seen bandied around but the analogy I would genuinely pick is "Rally Championship Car". Starts like a dream, cuts like a scythe and yet despite its weight is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre. Has halved the time it took before to mow the lawn. Assembly took a few minutes and I used Honda oil. Be warned the petrol tank is scarily big - in fact so much so you wonder if it is leaking out the bottom as fast as you are pouring it in! I am most impressed with the mulching facility. I didn't realise that the mulching attachment was in the mower when I first used it so was a little perplexed when I went to empty the grass box to find nothing in it! The thing is though there were no obvious piles of cut grass on the lawn. I am not sure I will ever bother with the grass box again. So in summary. Great machine, great price and I am like so many others a fan.

Excellent Machine I read all the reviews and they seem to say same thing.. best machine for price, best in category, and so was persuaded to buy.
Arrived in three days, set up easily, fueled and oiled ready to go.
Good strong engine. I ran the mower over three days for about 16 hours and used about 8 litres of fuel..
Very good .. I had more like a small meadow to mow (one-third acre), undulating and long wiry grass, up to about 10 inches high in places.. Wet in places and dry in others. Putting the machine on highest setting and moving forward under power it cut the grass even at this height.. although obviously needing to empty the grass collector on numerous occasions, ...to be expected. The long grass did not cut up fine as it did when the second and third run over the grass, at lower settings finally showed how the mulching operation works.
Any negatives? I am missing a small clip which is supposed to keep the accelerator cable, clutch cable and engine stop cable fixed to the handle bar of the machine..but that was probably a packing error and certainly doesn't impact the use of the mower.
And the only other awkward part is removing the grass box, and then picking it up to empty.. which cannot be completed in one swift move without even the tightly packed grass falling out.. Its necessary to remove the grass collector, angling it upwards at the front and placing it on its 'back'.. a movement done over the body of the machine.. to then let it go with the hand and move the line of attack lower down, through the upright bars of the handlebar. and grasp the grass collector firmly by the handle, thus not allowing it to fall forward as its removed. It is not possible to remove it in one swoop from its position without a spill of grass.
Also, whilst doing this the back flap which is on top of the grass collector whilst in use falls back and sometimes tangles on the cables .. but this actually holds it in the outward position ready to receive the grass collector again after emptying.. so not a big problem.
Finally, I found that the fabric of the grass collector .. held to the hard plastic top section by plastic clips does come unfastened at times when the grass box is full..
It could be that I had one that hadnt been firmly clicked into place, but even after i clicked it in place it now has a tendency to come apart on one willful clip. Its a little annoying, but not a big problem to fix.. It certainly isnt broken.. just poor fitting at construction in factory as the grass collector does come ready assembled for use.
But, I've used it only for 16 hours now.. within one week from purchase.. so hopefully the grass collector fitting clip doesn't get worse.
All in all, an excellent machine.

Great mower but quite heavy Service from Mow Direct was great and arrived on second working day. The mower is a monster! Solid build quality, easy to assemble - as per other reviews beware that the mulch plug comes pre fitted.

Cut the grass much quicker than my previous push mountfield with less effort. Started on first pull, breezed through the grass. Beware that due to the weight if you have obstacles or areas requiring frequent turns you will feel it heavy. The high rear wheels do help though.

Very pleased overall - I used the mulch setting this time and was amazed - no hopper to empty and you couldn't tell by looking at the lawn. Definitely recommend it at this price.

Well and truly pleased I had uncertainties about the engine type and decided to look on YouTube for practical advice as well as what to look out for and avoid. It gave good details about the engine type and performance, as well as tips on how to put the mower together; very useful.
The item arrived promptly and well packaged. The lawn mower was easy to put together; it is a well made item. We have a reasonably large undulating garden with areas which are sloped. The mower coped with ease and the garden was cut in half the time it normally takes. The engine felt like a finely tuned car that wanted to go and go and go. Exceptional Lawnmower Quality A gardening journalist for many years, I've tried many petrol driven mowers impassionately and objectively. In recent years, Einhell has changed all that! This product ticks all the right boxes: unbelievable value for money, quality, ease of use, close grass cropping, easy start, oversize grass box, 4 in 1 features, economy, etc. Yes, the multilingual owner's handbook could be better; the wheel nut sets could be colour-coded to prevent assembly error; the mulching insert could be kept separately whilst in transit; etc, but I'm nitpicking! Mow Direct's service was also exemplary from order placement to next day delivery!
Having stripped and rebuilt many Briggs and Stratton mower engines, there's only one 0.6 litre motor oil fill for me now - Mobil 1 (0 - 40w) - based on my trials if you fill up now and top up exclusively with Mobil 1 synthetic oil regularly to maximum level, and change it every pre-season, your engine will be virtually as new after 20 years with up to 50 hours annual mowing and using less fuel!! Warning: only use this initial synthetic oil fill thereafter - you must not mix mineral oil with synthetics so pre-warn your mower service centre if they service it ! Altogether, the BG-PM 51 SHW is the finest, up to 600m2 mowing surface area, domestic, lawnmower for less than £750:00 RSP. You won't be disappointed after purchase. I'm now passionately a devotee of the brand Einhell.

What a beast I bought this lawn mower after looking at so many others and I'm glad I did as its a beast of a machine. It cuts my lawn effortlessly and we also have two allotments with grass paths and frontage which i have to maintain and these are very rough paddock/couch grass. I found as long as you take the length down a bit at a time and not go steaming in with the shortest setting it handles it with relative ease. I have used the mulch, the cut and collect and the side exit setting all without issue.
My only complaint is I'd like it to cut a bit shorter but thats just personal prefrence.
You could buy a lot better machine than this but for the price I don't think you will.
This mower is top end of the budget section and I would recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic Service After some extended research on the internet we ordered the Einhell BG-PM 51SHW 4-in-1 Hi-wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower as it was about the only one at the price that would also cope with the rough and over-grown area of our garden with its side-exit system. I have to say I am very impressed with this mower, which zipped through the main part of our lawn in just 40 minutes where I was struggling for over 2 hours with my previous electric Flymo, which just wasn't suitable really. The service from Mow Direct was also superb, ordered on a Bank Holiday Monday and delivered first thing on the Wednesday, which is very impressive. I would not hesitate to recommend either this mower or Mow Direct themselves to anyone.

Great mower and fantastic service and delivery from Mowdirect Ordered one day delivered next without issue, even to the Isle of Wight. Bit heavy in the box, but assembled in minutes (basically assembled, just a few square bolts to fix handle in place). Oiled and petrolled, mowed lawn in 1 hour, only needed to empty collector once. This compares to 2-3 hours with old smaller mower and numerous stops to empty small basket! Just used basic cut and collect so far but very impressed, good price and amazed delivery was next day to IOW! Highly recommend MowDirect, whichever mower you are after.

Brilliant product This is an animal. It does a lot of hard very effectively. It is easy to start and very easy to use once you are used to adjusting the speed to your needs. I hope to get many years from what seems to be a well put together machine.

Ordering and delivery were also excellent. Well done Mowdirect and many thanks.

Power and economy Power in plenty and economical, just over the litre per hour. My lawn, more like a paddock really, averages a slope of 15 degrees with plenty of humps and bumps throughout. Additionally, I have to mow round numerous trees; this is where manovourability counts.
Unfortunately the 45kg of the mower is against it on the slope and this is where the self drive comes into its own; I couldn't mow without this aid. The self drive pushes the mower uphill effortlessly, although the wheels will spin if the grass is wet on the uphill slope but a firm push down on the handles usually enables the wheels to grip.
Starting from cold is easy, but do remember to replace the plug cap that was removed for safety when cleaning. Not so easy to start when hot as it is a bit of a guestimate how to set the throttle when choke is not needed. On the slope I have found that I must keep at least a half a litre of petrol in to avoid stalling through lack of fuel in some instances.
As the grass was long, 9-10 inches in places and tussocky with it, I elected to use the side ejection facility and the maximum height setting. This worked well on grass that was only a little damp, at no time did the mower stall or was unable to plough through the tallest grass and weed.
Height selection is the easiest I have ever come across, just unlock the leaver with your thumb and move the leaver to the desired setting; easy as that.
Cleaning afterwards; remove the plug cap and empty the petrol tank (or run it down to nearly empty first) and tip it over so that the oil filler is uppermost. I used a stiff brush to clear the little grass clinging to the sides; In later use, with the grass dry, there was no grass clinging.
Overall, a powerful machine that needs a firm hand to get the best out of it and plenty of practice in it's use. I found that I needed time to get used to letting the mower do the work and it was best to simply guide the mower and let it get on with it. I have yet to use the rear ejection facility, mulching option or the grass collection but, from the success so far, have little doubt that these will work just as well.
