It’s time to get digging.
Vegetable plots and allotments need the soil turning over to be ready for raking and seeding in a few weeks’ time, indeed you can sow some varieties of lettuce now, especially the delicious Little Gem which germinate readily at this time of the year.
We’ve said in the past that forking over the ground prior to raking is OK for small areas but not a lot of fun for larger plots and a garden tiller can save the inevitable aches and pains if you’re not used to hard manual work.

It has nine tines driven by a belt which will either come off or breaks if a really solid object is encountered, so saving the engine from serious and costly damage.
It has a reverse gear which is useful for turning at the end of rows and for engaging should the tiller get dug in – heaving a tiller out from heavy ground is not a lot of fun.
There is a transport wheel at the front to make it easy to move around and the handlebars can be adjusted to suit the user. They can also be laterally adjusted so you can avoid treading on freshly turned earth.
