Hints & Tips
The grass cutting season is now fully underway and it is often at this time of the year that people with larger lawns wonder whether now is the time to buy a ride-on mower.
These great little machines are made for areas of grass around 2000m2 and have a narrower cutting width than a lawn tractor but give the same convenience as a bigger machine.
And you can manoeuvre them though ordinary garden gates – but always check the widths before buying – and still sit back on the driver’s seat and whizz round the lawns much more quickly than if you were following a self-propelled mower.
And one which is in demand at the moment is the Mountfield 827M Compact Lawn Rider.
This has a 66cm cutting width so it can access lawns with narrower garden gates and is a very easy machine to drive.
It has six cutting heights from 30mm to 80mm and clippings go into a 150-litre grass box.
If you want to mulch the cut grass a mulch plug is available as is a rear deflector plate for use when you are happy just to let the grass drop back to the paddocks or orchards where appearance is not so important.
Mountfield’s own 224cc engine provides the power, smooth and quiet and started with a key.
It has five gears – four forward and one reverse – and the grass box can be emptied without leaving the driver’s seat. And when you’re finished just attach a garden hose to a port in the cutting deck to clean it out.
Our customers love this machine, leaving comments like “Great Little Machine with Big Capability…easy to use …even cuts in reverse…tight turning circle and cuts right up to the edges…love the sluice facility for the cutting deck…a great machine for the larger garden.” and “Excellent…the mower works like a dream”
The price is £1249, £100 below the recommended price and it has a two-year warranty with free next working day delivery.
