Three battery-powered machines to make grass cutting quiet and easy

Typical Easter weather. Rain, gales and distinctly chilly.

But the rain gave a much needed boost to the lawns so that they have ‘greened up’ with new growth and need cutting as so you have time or when it’s dried out.

Mowing lawns is becoming far simpler with the advent of cordless, battery-powered mowers.

Modern lithium-ion batteries are much more powerful than previous ones, meaning you can cut a small to medium sized lawn on a single charge.

And many have the advantage that, once you have bought a mower complete with battery and charger, you can then buy other garden machinery at very good prices as the batteries are interchangeable with equipment from the same manufacturer.

Their other advantage as that this type of mower mowers is far lighter and easier to use – no tugging on a starter cord, just push a button and you’re off.

Have a look at these three machines from top manufacturers to see what we mean.

The WOLF-Garten 72v Li-Ion Power 37 Cordless Lawnmower has a 72V battery which charges in about 60 minutes and is compatible with a wide range of other machinery in the Wolf-GARTEN range.

With this mower, which has cutting heights from 25mm to 75mm, you can either cut and collect the clippings, mulch them or discharge to the side, making it a mower for all types of gardens.

The grass box has an indicator to show when it’s full.

It weighs only 15kg and has a handlebar which adjusts to suit the user and a front carrying handle,

The cost is £339, over £30 off the recommended retail price, is delivered free the next working day and has a three year warranty.

Mountfield also have a new cordless mower for 2016 and this one has a rear roller to leave a neat striped finish.

The Mountfield S42R-HP LI Cordless Rear-Roller Lawnmower has an 70V lithium-ion battery and the mower has a full-width rear roller which, as well as leaving neat stripes which will be the envy of your neighbours, lets you mow right up to the edges of lawns and paths.

To give an even better finish it is fitted with a grass comb to smooth the lawn before it is cut and a skid plate. Cutting heights are from 20mm to 70mm.

The cutting deck is made from steel, unusual for a battery-powered mower, and the grass box, which holds 55 litres, has an indicator to show when it is full.

This is another mower which is light and easy to manoeuvre around flower beds and trees.

It costs £499, £70 off the recommended price and is delivered free the next working day with a two year warranty.

And the third one, also new for this year is from a leading German company, and it’s the AL-KO 46.5LI SP Moweo Cordless Self-Propelled Lawnmower.

This one has a slightly wider, 46cm, cut and a 36V battery and is self-propelled, with power going to the rear wheels making it an even easier mower to use.

There are seven cutting heights from 25mm 75mm and a cutting deck shaped to assist collecting and efficient discharging so you can use it on the longer areas of the garden as well. The grass box holds a huge 70 litres.

With free next-working-day delivery and a two year warranty, it costs £649, £50 off the recommended price.

We have a huge selection of mowers on our site, but see here for the full list of battery-powered machines.
