British-made mowers to give that iconic striped finish to your lawn

Hayter Spirit 41 lawnmower

Hayter is a company with a long British history and their mowers are some of the best on the market.

Soundly engineered and with a reputation for having a long working life, they are the iconic mower seen puttering along the lawns of large houses.

They make a range of mowers suitable for every size garden. And if you have a smaller garden and want a striped finish to show off the beds and borders, have a look at this one.

From Hayter’s Spirit range, the Autodrive Rear Roller Lawnmower (Code 619) will leave you with a neat, tight finish – it cuts right down to 13mm – aided by front finds which smooth the grass leading to a better cut.

Power is from a 125cc Briggs & Stratton engine fitted with a friction disc to prevent damage to the crank if a solid object is encountered. The cutting deck is lined to reduce noise and minimise corrosion damage.

The cutting width is 410mm – 16in – and cutting heights are from 13mm to 65mm with seven settings.

Add to that a 55 litre grass box and you have a perfect mower for a smaller lawn.

It costs £399, £70 off the recommended price and is delivered free the next working day with a bottle of engine oil to get you mowing. It has a three year warranty.

The Harrier range provide a great mowers for larger lawns. They are made in cutting widths of 41, 48 and 56 cutting widths and the 48cm and 56cm models also have machines made for commercial gardeners.

To give you an idea how good these mowers are, have a look at these two.

The Hayter Harrier 48 Autodrive E/S Lawnmower with Variable Speed & Electric Start (Code: 491) is a cracking mower made to make grass cutting simple and enjoyable.

First, it is started with a key, so no tugging on a cord, and second it is designed so that you set the speed at which you mow – from 1.5mph to 3mph.

This means you can slow up mowing around flower beds and the like and speed up on the straight runs.

A 190cc Briggs & Stratton engine is reliable, smooth and quiet and produces few vibrations.

It is built for a long working life and has cutting heights from 13mm to 60mm and has a 70 litre grass box.

It is also fitted with a split-differential rear-roller so you won’t scuff the turf when turning.

It costs £849, £130 off the recommended price and has a five year maker’s warranty.

Delivery the next working day is free PLUS a Free Pre-Delivery Inspection and a free bottle of engine oil and a 10-litre steel jerry can worth £24.95.

And if you’re a professional gardener with demanding customers this is the one for you, the Hayter Harrier 56 Pro Power-Driven Rear Roller Mower (Code 566).

This one has a wider 56cm cutting width and a Briggs & Stratton 190cc engine with a cast iron cylinder liner and is a very fuel efficient machine.

The split rear roller will leave the striped finish which looks great on larger lawns and it has a single speed of 2.7mph. A comprehensive anti-vibration system makes it comfortable to use for longer periods.

It is fitted with an aluminium cutting deck to give it a long life and heavy duty ball bearing wheels as well as a front bumper.

Cutting heights are from 13mm to 60mm and there is a massive 70-litre grass box.

This one costs £1050, over £200 off the recommended price, has a one year warranty for commercial use and is delivered with a free steel jerry can, a free pair of Hayter work trousers worth £49.99 AND you get a free bottle of Briggs and Stratton oil!
