Hints & Tips
Many gardens have been spoiled this winter by falling branches and trees as storms with cuddly names batter towns and countryside.
Once cleared away and sawn these branches and trunks are an added bonus for the winter fire but will first need to be split. Swinging a heavy axe is excellent exercise but also a sure way to dislocating you back.
Nothing is annoying as a painful back just as Spring threatens to slither in over the horizon; and a simple log splitter is an easy way to turn tree trunk into firewood.
Here are a couple of real value log splitters and one on a stand to make the job even easier.
Our very own MD 4-Ton Electric Horizontal Log-Splitter, on special offer, will take logs up to 25cm in diameter and 37cm long and by applying four tons of power and forcing them against a splitting wedge will leave you with logs ready for the fire.
The splitting power is generated by a 1500W electric motor and the device is safe and simple to use and can be easily moved around as it has transport wheels on the base and a rubber hand grip on the handle.
It costs £159.95, £90 off the recommended price and has a two year warranty. We deliver it free the next working day.
And you can also buy a four way splitting wedge if you want the wood a little smaller for an extra £20.
The MD 5-Ton Electric Log-Splitter is a similar machine but exerts more splitting force.
So if you have tougher woods to split, like oak or thorn, you may like to chose this one.
Similar in many respects to the splitter above this one will deal with logs 25cm in diameter and 52 cm long.
Once the logs are in the cradle on the machine both hands are needed to operate it keeping them well away from the splitting mechanism.
This is the lowest priced splitter in its class and costs £169.95, £130 off the recommended price and also has a two year warranty.
Again you can buy a four way splitting wedge for another £20, it is delivered free the next working day and has a two year warranty.
And the third one is the MD 5-Ton Electric Log-Splitter with Stand so the need to bend and crouch is minimised.
It will deal with the same diameter and length of logs and the same four-way wedge is also available as an optional extra.
It costs £199.95, £150 off the recommended price, has a two year warranty and is delivered free of charge the following working day.
