Hints & Tips
A hard-working lawn and garden tractor is just about essential if you have a large area of grass to keep in trim.
But few offer the striped finish you see on football pitches and the like, as they don’t have a rear roller.
As well as leaving a picture-perfect lawn these will also smooth out the bumps which inevitably appear through the Spring and Summer.
Here is a selection from Simplicity, an American manufacturer with a well-earned reputation for solid reliable machines which will give years of service.
The Simplicity Regent SLT250 Garden Tractor is a very easy machine to drive with a 25.5cm turning radius and a five step cruise control.
It is designed with pivoting axles and a floating mower deck with three blades to give an excellent finish, and has a really wide 122cm cutter deck.
This means you can tackle large lawns and leave them with a perfectly-striped finish.
The engine is from Briggs & Stratton, 724cc so you can tow heavy garden machinery equipment like large trailers or a big garden roller.
Cutting heights are from 38m to 102mm and it has a free mulch kit for a neater appearance on bigger areas.
It costs £3499, is delivered free within four to six working days and has a two year warranty.
The Simplicity Broadmoor SLT300 Garden Tractor, currently on special offer, has an Automatic Controlled Traction System so that it can tackle sloping lawns and damp grass.
It is a four-wheel drive machine with wide profile tyres and has a 127cm cutting deck designed so it will not scalp the lawn.
The turning circle is just 45cm and it is powered by a 724cc Briggs & Stratton V-twin engine and the cutting deck can be removed if you want to use it for towing garden equipment.
This garden tractor is designed to discharge to the side but a mulching kit is available for more formal lawns.
There is currently £400 of this great machine as it costs just £4399. A mulching kit and triple bag collector are available as optional extras.
We deliver it for free within four to six working days and it has a two-year maker’s warranty.
And the top of the range is the Simplicity Conquest SYT500 Garden Tractor with a massive 132cm cutting deck and a 27hp twin cyli8nder Briggs & Stratton engine.
Transmission is via Simplicity’s Automatic Controlled Traction which senses when individual wheels need more power. This will eliminate wheel spin on slopes and wet lawns and stop scuffing when turning.
It also means the cutting deck will follow the contours of the lawn precise and give a better finish. And you can adjust the cutting height very precisely.
It is a side discharge tractor but a mulch kit is available and it has full width rear rollers.
Transmission is much like an automatic car and it also has cruise control for longer runs and as a further bonus it has power steering.
This really is one of the finest lawn tractors you can buy for larger areas like small estates and it costs £5899.
The mulch kit costs £229 and you can also buy a triple bag collector, a wide-bodied cart collector and a 132cm turbo.
Delivery is within three to five working days and it has a two-year warranty.
That was the top of the range, but the Simplicity Regent XL/SLT200 Garden Tractor is a great little tractor for smaller areas, but nevertheless packs a punch with its 724cc Briggs & Stratton engine.
The cutting deck is 116cm wide and although a side-discharge machine, again there is a mulch plug available.
This one costs £2999, has a two year warranty and is delivered free within four to six working days.
