I have been looking at the trees a lot recently. Quite extraordinary how beautiful autumn is, once you get over the dark, the cold and the fireworks party hangovers. It made me think of that well known (and thankfully out of copyright) poem, ‘Tree’ by Joyce Kilmer. Lovely
“Trees”
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Isn’t it gorgeous? But for me (and my hard pressed editor for this week, Drew) it doesn’t go into enough detail about falling leaves and the mess they can make. So of course, I couldn’t resist having a go at a ‘MowDirect’ version myself…

I thought that I would never see
Quite this much mess, made by a tree.
A tree that’s cast its leaves around
A real slip hazard on the ground.
A tree that spreads them on the lawn
So all the nutrients have gone.
So I must click on MowDirect
Before my lawn is truly wrecked.
And when I’m there I’ll have to grab
