Hints & Tips
Wall-to-wall Wimbledon will occupy the television screens for the next two weeks and will bring many a cry from the average gardener ‘Why can’t I get my lawn to look that neat.’
So here’s a hint. The grass at Wimbledon and many other tennis courts is cut every day to a length of 8mm and you need a cylinder mower to achieve such perfection.
If you want a lawn with a short neat finish you really need one made by British manufacturer Allett – some of their mowers can cut right down to 2.4mm.
Tennis clubs, cricket clubs and bowls clubs throughout the lawn rely on Allett mowers to keep the pitches and courts in great condition.
As well as mowing they are fed regularly and scarified to keep them weed and debris free.
If you’re thinking you want a lawn with that neat, crisp finish and have a large lawn to trim this is the mower to turn to.
The Allett Westminster 20H Petrol Cylinder Lawn Mower is the style of machine you might find cutting the courts at Wimbledon, used at county cricket pitches and premiership football clubs.
It has a 51cm cutting width and a 12-bladed cylinder to deliver 145 cuts a minute.
It will cut right down to 2.4mm and up to 19mm as it putters along powered by a 196cc engine.
Twin heavy duty rollers will give the striped finish and between them is an adjustable rake to remove moss, twigs and other debris.
The grass box holds 84 litres, the handlebars can be adjusted to suit the user and there is also an optional wheel stand so you can wheel the mower across paths and other hard surfaces without damaging the rollers.
It costs £3395, well over £300 off the recommended retail price and there is a a two year warranty from Allett. The wheel stands costs £198.
We deliver it free the next working day.
