Much of the country is crying out for a decent drop of rain, and as soon as we get the promised weekend showers, the lawns will go into overdrive.

The Mountfield SP180 Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower has a Briggs & Stratton 125 cc engine and is easier to use on slightly larger lawns as it has a 45 cm cutting width and does not have to be pushed along.
Cutting heights from 20 mm to 70 mm and a large 55 litre grass box make this a great bargain mower especially as it has been designed for a long life with a steel cutting deck.
This one has a full £100 off the maker’s price and costs £249; and it has a two year warranty.
Now mowers exclusive to us again, this time from, Oleo-Mac, a leading Euopean manufacturer based in Italy.
The Oleo-Mac G44-PK Petrol Push Lawn Mower is a machine for smaller lawns and with a 140 cc engine especially mean on fuel.
With a 42 cm cutting width it is ideal for a lawn around 260 sq metres – about the size of a tennis court.
It has a larger 60 litre grass box and four cutting heights from 28 mm to 75 mm and is one of the lightest machines in its class at 23.7 kg.
And this one also has a three year warranty from the manufacturer.
It costs £179.95.
It has a 60 litre grass box and a 140 cc engine which moves it along at 2.6 km/hr.
This one has a 60 litre grass box, quite a large one for a mower like this and is a very solidly built machine running on ball bearing mounted wheels.
It is £100 off the recommended retail price and costs £219.95 and has a three year warranty.
You can also but a mulching kit for an extra £20 which means the clippings are chopped very finely and returned to the lawn where they rot away providing a useful fertilizer.
This next one is from a company with a reputation for building top quality mowers that last.
The Masport 200 ST Push Lawn Mower, another on special offer, has a 125 cc Briggs & Stratton engine which is started by the recoil cord positioned at the top of the handlebars.
With this one, the cutting height goes right down to 10 mm, so if you want a really tight finish to the lawn this should be on you short list.
It costs £215 and has a two year warranty.
Now a couple of mowers from Einhell, a German manufacturer which makes very solid machines.
The Einhell GH-PM
Self-Propelled 4-Wheeled Petrol Lawnmower is a 135 cc engine and has a cutting deck with a powder coated finish to resist corrosion and give a longer life.
With a 46 cm cutting width it is suitable for a medium-sized lawn and there is loads of power with its 135 cc engine.
The grass box holds 60 litres and the cutting g heights are from 32 mm to 70 mm with five settings.
This very popular mower costs £219.9, £100 less than the recommended price and has a two year warranty.
Now a bigger machine from the same, one packed with features and made to tackle larger areas and also all types of grass from smooth lawns to rough parts like small paddocks.
The Einhell GC-PM 51SHW 4-in-1 Hi-Wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower has a wider cutting width – 51 cm – and four ways of dealing with the clippings.
When on the rougher areas they can be discharged to the rear or side and when cutting the lawns they can either be collected in the huge 70 litre grass box or can be mulched.
As it has higher rear wheels it is particularly good at dealing with rougher surfaces and is also easier to manoeuvre.
The engine has a capacity of 163 cc and the cutting heights are from 25 mm to 85 mm with six options.
This one costs £319.95, £160 less than the recommended retail price and it has a two year warranty.
Now for an absolutely top notch mower from a British manufacture with an enviable reputation.
The Hayter Harrier 41 Autodrive Lawnmower with Variable Speed (Code: 413) has a 190 cc Briggs & Stratton engine designed to be very easy to start and is made with front fins to smooth the lawn before it is cut, leading to a better finish.
This one is also easier to use as it follows the pace at which you want to work.
With it’s ribbed rear-roller it will leave a striped finish, it has a very large 53 litre grass box and cutting heights are from 13 mm to 60 mm.
With this mower you also receive a free bottle of engine oil to get you started and a free 25 litre steel Jerry Can worth £24.95.
It costs £549, £140 less than the maker’s recommended price and has an extra-long five year warranty.
And finally a real beast of a mower to rival ride-ons.
The Toro 20975 TimeMaster Twin Cut Lawnmower has a massive 76 cm cutting width and twin blades.
This can be used either as a mulching mower or with the grass box and is powered by a Briggs& Stratton 190 cc engine which the makers say will start in two pulls or fewer on the starting cord.
It has been designed to follow your walking speed and is also fitted with a blade brake clutch so you can disengage the blades when crossing paths which saves having to stop and start the engine.
Cutting heights are from 32 mm to 108 mm.
It costs £849, £150 less than the recommended price, has a three-year warranty and a free bottle of engine oil.
