Hints & Tips
The lawn is starting to grow apace now, but for many people this is bad news as they find using a heavy petrol mower difficult.
And many people also don’t like the idea of a trailing electric cable easy to cope with.
If this is you, the answer could well be a battery-powered mower.
Light, safe and dead easy to use, these mowers use the latest battery technology for power and provide enough charge for, in some cases, pretty large lawns.
So here are three you might like to consider if you’ve had enough of a heavy petrol mower with its smelly engine.
First is from a leading German engineering company, the Einhell GE-CM 36LI Cordless Lawnmower.
This mower will run for 30 minutes on one charge and with its 36 cm cutting width is light and easy to push and to get round path edges and flower beds.
Large rear wheels help this and also avoid damaging the lawn on the turns and it has a built-in carrying handle. The handlebars have three settings and there are six cutting heights.
Two batteries and two chargers are included as they are compatible with other garden machinery in the Einhell Power-X range.
It costs £259, £40 off the recommended price and has a two year warranty. We deliver it free the next working day.
Mountfield has been a favourite British brand for years and this one, the Mountfield Princess 34LI Cordless Four-Wheel Rear-Roller Lawn Mower is a cracking little machine.
It comes with a 48V lithium-ion battery which will charge in two hours and is aimed at people with a lawn of around 300 sq metres.
This one has a rear roller which will leave an iconic stripe and has a polypropylene chassis to resist corrosion and give a long life.
The cutting width is 34 cm and there are cutting heights from 25 mm to 75 mm.
It costs £269, £30 less than the recommended price and is delivered free the next working day with a two year warranty.
And the Greenworks G-MAX 50Li-40V Lithium-Ion 3-in-1 Twin-Force Cordless Lawnmower (GW2500207-D) can tackle lawns up to 2000 sq metres in size as it comes with two batteries.
It has a ‘Power Save’ system which raises and lowers the power output according to the grass being cut and the conditions.
It has a large grass box but you can mulch the clippings and return them to the lawn if you prefer.
It also has a striping mat to leave a striped finish.
It costs £429 and again is delivered free the next working day and has a two year warranty.
