Hints & Tips
The lawn and gardening are probably quite a long way back in your mind at the moment.
As we’ve said, the best thing you can do at the moment is to stay off it to avoid damaging it, but Spring is just around the corner (honest!).
If you have a larger lawn chances are you’ll need a ride-on or tractor mower and now, in the midst of snow, ice and freezing nights, is the best time to buy one as you’ll find prices now are pretty keen.
So here are four lawn tractors from a leading American company. There’s one for every size of lawn.
The Lawnflite RF125 Lawn & Garden Tractor costs only £1199, and is a side-discharge machine with a free dethatcher, free cover and a two year warranty. Buy a grass box and a mulch kit and you have a great all-purpose machine.
These are similar machines with Briggs & Stratton engines and are designed to be especially effective collecting wet grass.
If you need a lawn tractor one of these will almost certainly fit the bill, but if you need our advice on which one give our team a ring on 08454 588905.
They will be able to tell you which one to choose based on the type of garden you have and its size.
OK, so maybe we are dreaming of perfectly-cut lawns and days on the patio with a glass of something in our hands. Before then we have the small matter of snow to deal with.
You don’t have to spend hours on end shovelling snow as there are machines to do that for you.
This one will do nicely for clearing paths and drives around the house, the Oleo-Mac Artik 52 Snow Blower costs under £300 and is ideal for most homes.
Fire it up, push it into the snow and it will blast it up to eight metres away. It really is that simple. Have a look at these pages for full details. And at £299 and delivered free it really is a bargain.
Larger properties or industrial premises to keep clear? Then the Stiga Snow Partrol at £599 will do the trick and this one is self-propelled and also delivered free the next working day.
If it it’s just paths around the house then the Stiga Snow Electric 31 is ideal. Just plug it in and push it along – it works just like an electric shovel and at £79 is a great buy (it was featured recently on television).
When the snow and ice clear you’ll probably want to get into the allotment or vegetable patch, so here are a couple of cracking machines from a German engineering company.
They’ll take all the huff and puff out of digging by hand and will also save you hours of back-breaking work.
Their BG-MT 3336 Petrol Mini-Tiller costs just £239.95 for smaller plots and can also be used in shrubberies with a tilling width of 36 cm. And it is currently £150 less than the recommended price.
The Einhell BG-MT 3360-LD Petrol Tiller / Cultivator is made for allotments and larger vegetable plots and has a tilling width of 60 cm. It features a handy transport wheel at the front to make it easy to move around.
This one is £200 off the recommended price at £299.95. See these pages for full details on the machine.
And finally a terrific log splitter, now at a better price than ever. In fact we doubt you’ll find a better buy anywhere. And with the pile of logs rapidly demising, the sooner you get it replenished the better.
The MD 5-Ton Electric Log-Splitter has all the power most people need to turn sawn wood into logs for the fire. And it costs just £160.95.
Splitting wood with an axe is an easy way to damage your back – this little machine will do the job for you and is powerful enough to deal with all but the thickest, twisted logs.
It is really easy and safe to use and as the hydraulic power comes from an electric motor there is no worry about firing up a petrol engine.
