Hints & Tips
Hayter produces some of the best lawnmowers you can buy and they’re a good buy at the moment as they are on special offer for the autumn.
You can start to raise the cutting height a little at this time of the year, especially if you have been cutting the grass quite low, giving a tight finish.
If you have a smaller lawn the Hayter Spirit 41 Petrol Push Rear Roller Lawnmower (Code: 617) is a great little machine giving a striped finish thanks to its rear roller.
The cutting width is 41 cm and it has seven cutting heights down to 13 mm.
Power comes from a Briggs & Stratton 155 cc engine which is really easy to start and is designed for a long life.
The full width ribbed rear roller which gives the neat, striped finish also means that you can cut closer to the lawn edges compared with other mowers. And it also has front fins to smooth the grass before it is trimmed and give a neater finish.
It costs £285 compared with the maker’s recommended retail price of £359, has a three year warranty and is delivered free the next working day complete with a free bottle of engine oil.
A bigger and more versatile machine is the Hayter R53S Power-Driven Recycling Lawn Mower VS ES with Sens-A-Speed transmission (Code: 448).
This one will collect the clippings, mulch them and return to the lawn or discharge to the side making it a really versatile mower.
Cutting heights are from 25 mm up to 114 mm and it has a more powerful 190 cc Briggs & Stratton engine. And it is started by a key making it much easier to fire up.
It has a solid steel deck and a 54 litre grass box and handlebars which can be adjusted to suit the height of the user.
This one also comes with a free 10-litre jerry can worth £24.95 and a free bottle of engine oil.
It is priced at £510 compared with the recommended retail price of £639. Delivery is free the next working day and there is a three year warranty from Hayter.
And for a top notch mower for a larger lawn the Hayter Harrier 48 Autodrive E/S Lawnmower with Variable Speed & Electric Start (Code: 491) ticks all the boxes.
A 190 cc Briggs & Stratton engine starts at the turn of a key and runs quietly and very efficiently.
The ground speed can be adjusted between 1.3 and 3mph so you can work at the speed which suits both you and the type of grass being trimmed.
It is built on an aluminium chassis to give a light weight and durability and it has a cuter bar friction disc so that the crankshaft is protected should you hit something solid.
The lining of the cutter deck limits noise and helps prevent corrosion.
Cutting heights are between 18 mm and 60 mm and the grass box holds 70 litres.
The split rear roller gives better grip and prevents scalping the lawn.
The recommended price is £999 but we have it for sale at £799. The engine oil is free as is next working day delivery and there is a five year warranty from Hayter.
