Three top snow blowers to keep public buildings and small businesses working

In spite of the (comparatively) mild January we’re not out of the woods yet and there is a good chance that snow is on its way to take the place of the floods and rain.

If you are in charge of a small business or a shopping or industrial centre, the pressure will be on to stay open, so here are three snow blowers from Swedish company Stiga to keep you ahead of the pack.

First is the Stiga Snow Fox Dual-Stage Petrol Self-Propelled Snow Blower, a machine made for clearing larger areas with a Briggs & Stratton 800 snow series engine, 205 cc with six forward and two reverse gears.

These engines are designed to work in the harshest weather and this one has both a recoil start and an electric key start – it has ten metres of cable to hook it up to the closest electricity supply.

The revolving front auger breaks down the snow and ice and forces it into the main chute where an impellor blasts it up to 12 metres clear through the exit chute.

This chute rotates through 180 degrees and direction and pitch can be controlled from the driving position.

The machine slides along on snow skids which can be adjusted to suit the surface being cleared. Chunky special snow tyres give bags of grip.

It costs £1089, £100 off the maker’s recommended retail price. Delivery is free the next working day and there is a one year warranty from Stiga.

From the same company comes the Stiga Snow Blizzard Dual-Stage Petrol Self-Propelled Snow Blower, a machine designed for larger domestic and small business premises.

This one works in a similar fashion to the previous one, dragging the snow and ice into the front chute and then blowing it clear with a 249 cc Briggs & Stratton engine.

The front hood is 50 cm tall and it can clear a width of 69 cm in one pass. And the front snow skids are adjustable to suit various surfaces.

Six forward and two reverse gears give excellent manoeuvrability and again there are both recoil and electric starts.

Pitch and direction of the snow stream are adjustable from the driving position and there is a powerful front headlight.

It costs £1499, £200 less than the maker’s recommended retail price, we deliver it free the next working day and there is a one year warranty from Stiga.

And of you have a really large area to clear then the Stiga Snow Power Dual-Stage Self-Propelled Petrol Snow Blower could be the one for you.

This one clears 84 cm at each pass and can throw snow up to 12 metres clear.

The power is from a Briggs & Stratton 305 cc engine and it has a variomatic drive with six forward and two reverse gears. This makes it easier to control in tight situations.

The exit chute rotates 200 degrees and direction and pitch are centrally controlled and can be altered with one hand. A pair of 16 in wheels with chunky tyres give excellent grip and there is a central headlight as well.

This one is £2059, £300 less than Stiga’s recommended retail price and there is a one year warranty.

We deliver it free the next working day, but please remember that if the roads are blocked we can’t deliver it to you so best to order in good time.
