A glance out to the lawn will show you that the lawn is still growing really vigorously and needs trimming regularly – but leave it a bit longer than you would in the summer.
If you have a larger lawn a wider cut lawn mower with a strong engine is especially important at this time of year, so here are three machines which fit the bill.
And don’t forget, if you any advice you can ring our team on 08459 588905.
First is one from a leading German engineering company, the Einhell RG-PM 51S 4-in-1 Hi-wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower with a really powerful Briggs & Stratton 190 cc engine.
The cutting width is 51 cm making it suitable for larger lawns, especially as it has four ways if disposing of the clippings.
You can either discharge to the side or back, useful for the longer areas, or mulch them and return to the lawn or collect in the 60 litre grass box which has an indicator to show when it is full.
The high wheels mean it is very stable and easy to manoeuvre around flower beds and path edges and the handles have three heights making it even more comfortable to use.
Cutting heights are centrally controlled from 30 to 75 mm and the machine has a powder coated finish to give a longer life.
This mower at the moment is currently on very special offer at £319.95 – Einhell’s recommended retail price is £579.95.
It has free next working day delivery and a two year maker’s warranty.
This next one is from an American manufacturer at a great price and on of Britain’s favourites.
The McCulloch M53-160DW High-Wheel 4-in-1 Self-propelled Lawn Mower has a Honda engine and is exclusive to Mowdirect.
This too has the same four ways of dealing with the clippings – the rear and side discharge are particularly useful at this time of year.
At the heart of the machine beats a Honda GCV160 engine which is very easy to start and runs remarkably quietly.
There is a massive 71 litre grass box and five cutting heights from 25 to 82 mm. Ball bearing wheels make it easy to move around the garden and the drive to the front wheels make it even easier to drive around the twists and turns especially with its high-wheel design.
It has a 53 cm cutting width.
It costs £349 as against the maker’s recommended retail price of £499 and has a one year guarantee from McCulloch. Delivery is free the next working day.
And the third is a battery-powered machine made for larger properties, light at an excellent price. And free from petrol fumes as an added bonus.
The Greenworks G-MAX 50Li-40V Lithium-Ion 3-in-1 Twin-Force Cordless Lawnmower (25367) will happily tackle lawns up to 2000 sq metres with a twin-bladed cutting system and two 40V batteries.
It is a clever machine as it will take only enough power for the job in hand drawing more power when it tackles longer wetter grass and less for dry flat lawns. And it will use both blades or just one according to the conditions as well.
As an added bonus there is a mulching plug for use when conditions allow. And there is a striping mat tom leave the traditional British lawn finish.
The handles are adjustable and the cutting height is adjustable from 30 to 90 mm. And the cutting width is 20 in.
This one costs £349 compared with the maker’s recommended cost of £669 and there is a four year warranty. Delivery is free the next working day.
When you buy a Greenworks machine with the battery and charger other Greenworks machinery can be bought at great prices – for instance a leaf blower is only £39.
