Ten top machines to give you a perfect lawn ready for the summer barbecue

Crack open a bottle, for tis the season of barbecues, warm white wine which has lost its fizz and black and blue meat – charred black on the outside and raw in the middle.

And tis also the season when our gardens should be looking their best with perennial shrubs in bloom or about to be and lawns a perfect green carpet.

With hot sunny weather interspersed with rain you’ll need to keep the hoe moving in the flower beds and between and the rows of vegetables for tis also the season of the weed, when they seem to grow more quickly than flowers.

For the lawn, the mower needs to be out at least once a week, slowly moving the cutting height down for a tighter finish.

Mountfield HP180R Petrol Push Rear-Roller Lawnmower

But don’t be tempted to scalp it within an inch of its life – a lush lawn with a bit of green looks better than shorter grass which discolours quickly if the sun does get out for a few hours.

So here are ten top mowers for all types of gardens, and the first is the Mountfield HP180 Petrol Rotary Hand-Propelled Lawnmower, exclusive to MowDirect with a reliable 125cc Briggs & Stratton engine.

With its 45cm wide cutting deck it is ideal for lawns around 800m2 and being one which you push is easy to work round lawns with sharp curving edges and around flower borders.

The cutting deck is designed to create a strong air current which helps propel the cut grass into the 55-litre grass box even when it’s a bit wet.

Cutting heights are from 20mm to 70mm with five options.

It costs £199, £100 less than the recommended price and we deliver it free within two to three working days of receiving your order. And it has a two-year warranty.

One customer reviewer wrote: ‘First Class. A very good machine which was assembled in about thirty minutes, though very little assembly was required. This is a particularly fine product at a low purchase price.’
